Used them in truck campers for years, but they are one more loose item to stow away when not in use. Some campers even use two post to make the table more stable and stop rotation. It all depends on what you want.

Cow, that's an interesting idea. Reminds me of submarine/ship bunks. These ideas are great. But you all are giving me way too much to consider . I'm trying to stay as retro as possible. The wood interior and original features was one reason I shelled out so much $$$ for mine. Now that I've looked at so many mods, I'm torn. My son said to me at one point, "Mom, don't make it too 'you'." I think the smaller (looks smaller to me) pole table would be great for two people but we want to seat four for games. And my table is in amazing shape, formica included, even though I'm not fond of the color.

Hi friends! I know this is an old thread but really live the layout Gary gave for the compact. According to our 67 dimensions we would have about 18 inches remaining for a little bench / table after there is a full mattress put in, totaling about 74 inches from the rear wall to the door. It's a cool layout we are gonna try this in ours. Thanks for the visual aids!
