I wonder if you could sand those areas down a little and put another couple coats of shellac on them? I mean if they aren't big and old why wouldn't that work? Just a newbie idea, no big if I'm wrong, I am quite often wrong. 😁 The staining in the rear corners is coming from the back side of the paneling, so it won't sand out. There are solutions that claim to take staining out of wood, so we may try that. The good news is that without a covered workspace, we will have plenty of time to figure it out. It won't stop raining here until May.

I don't want to get too much further off the "cover" subject than we already have, but I am wondering... Is the staining about even across the bow? Does Hamlet have the upper cabinets, and if so, is it staining below the edges of the cabinets or above? Just wondering out loud of there is a common weak spot in the roof-to-wall joint. Or perhaps it is the wing mounts that is allowing the infiltration?
Sorry about thinking out loud.

Hamlet has the side open uppers like all Compacts do. The staining starts right around the top of both sides at the back and heads south from there. Doesn't seem to be wing related. I suspect Vikx was right about the freeze thaw cycles, in the wintertime its often cold enough to freeze at night and then warms into the 40s during the day. I guess if that happens sixty or seventy times a year, it'd be enough to disrupt things. It'll be interesting to explore and check out just how much is stain and how much is rot. At least in the meantime, he's dry and protected.

I have all kinds of faith in Hamlet. I'm betting there may be a little staining but very little actual rot. Likely there is a small separation of the putty behind the gutters.
