Hey There, I am now a proud owner of a 1969 Shasta Loflyte, a beautiful 16 footer. I actually drove up to MT SHASTA, to pick it up (pics coming soon!). I cannot find the vin on the tongue of this trailer...nothing. There is the '6000 lbs gross weight' stamped in, but nothing else that would indicate in the front of the trailer... I did, however, find 5 numbers on a 'Washington' metal plate on the back of the trailer. They are...58109. I believe it was built in the State of WA, so it would make sense to have a 'W' in front of those numbers, but it is not there....anybody have any clues? I do have the registration, but here in CA, it needs to be verified on the trailer itself. If unlucky, I can just go to the CHP, and have them generate a new VIN... THANKS, and I will most certainly post some pics of 'LUCKY', he is a bute! (all robin's egg blue!)...

Shasta had their VIN numbers in two different spots on the trailer tongue. On the streetside, there is a welded-on plate with the number, usually inside the rail of the tongue. On the curbside, the number was stamped into the metal on the outside-face of the tongue, usually about between the jack and the tank rack. Often the numbers are covered up by rust, or by old paint jobs, and can be found with a little detective work that includes use of a wire brush and possibly some paint remover. Don't use any methods that are too harsh, such as grinding or heavy sanding, it shouldn't be necessary. Those methods can obliterate the stamped numbers.

In 1966, the Washington plant became the 5th Shasta facility to open.
Unfortunately, I have only collected 13 Shasta vin#'s from Battleground, Washington.
Based on the vin#'s that I do have from Washington, they start with the number "4" and followed by the letter "W", then a four digit number. Your's will probably start off 15## or maybe 16##.

Thanks Folks, for the info I suppose I could try and find the vin, using the methods mentioned above. I really don't want to take off his paint, for I just bought him (His name is 'Lucky'). I would have to have the paint matched, which isn't a deal-breaker though.

You can take a picture of the curb side tongue and if you take it at an angle, slightly back lit with a light source or the sun, then enlarge the picture on your computer, you might be able to see the silhouette of the vin#.

Hy thanks for the tip! Since it does not get sun, I can muster up some light (including a flash) that could possibly reveal the VIN. The funny thing though, is that DMV needs to see it 'in person', and that would not include a pic Either way, I'm getting this done
