While visiting relatives and friends in Michigan they had a rental house up in UP near the Canada border. Renters moved and there was an abandon trailer. It took 15 minutes to get a lost title at DMV.
While driving the back roads I found several small camper trailers for sale but all with dry rotted flat tires probably 3 days work getting new tires, repack bearings with grease, make sure slights work, too much work, but if someone had the time you could buy a lot of old camper trailers just by driving the roads looking for them. People in MI are poor and prices are very high some of those trailers prices are cheap $100, $200 and $300 it is yours. We have been to MI twice and we are going again next week with the camper trailer this time to camp for 3 weeks on highway 2 and a few other places 1 camp ground is on the one of the great lakes. We want to get up there and back before it snows so far they are still having 90 degree weather.

Take some photos.
It's always fun seeing camper-in-the-woods photos.
I bought one up North once. The problem is the snow up there. Lots of rot. I once bought a Shasta in the Utah desert. They get only 9" of rain a year. The frame had almost no rust.

Returned last weekend from a 3 week Yooper Looper camping excursion. The UP is a hidden gem. Beautiful landscape, lakes, falls and old growth forests. We saw tons of old trailers, most probably hunting abodes. The only issue I see would be getting the courage to approach an owner to inquire about their trailer. The area is quite remote; that's what makes the trip worth the adventure! Did I mention black bears?

Have you ever seen The Deliverance?
With that said, I'd chance it for a 57 Shasta...in a barn.
