The four wheel drive vehicles of that era were by NAPCO which was an aftermarket company that made 4x4 units for several manufacturers. I think in the late 50s GM started offering the option as a special order. I wish I had a NAPCO conversion, they are way cool. I am doing some body modifications on mine so it does not look like anything someone else has. It will have two 1947 Buick grills, one upside down on top of the other. Here is picture. At first glance I thought Pontiac grill. But noooo, it is all special. that is real sharp. You do have some mighty fine imaginations Dan. I can fix things okay, i `m just not real imaginative when it comes to building things like what you are doing. Oh yeah, the Suburban, It had sold several years ago. I had dreams of taking an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser and mounting the body onto a Chevrolet 4 wheel drive chassis. The same guy the had the 54 burb, He was going to scrap his pickup to buy a Suburban to haul hunters in. I told him about My idea of the Vista Cruiser, he had never heard of one. A few days later I was at a junkers place, He had a 67 Vista Cruiser setting there for 200 dollars. Buddy grabbed it up and built His Vista Cruise Suburban from his pickup, sold the body components from the pickup and more than paid for His conversion car. had to shorten the trucks frame about six inches.

You were almost there. The page that the link goes to, lower right side, a bent arrow pointing to the right, tap that arrow, next page will popup, above the address bar is three tabs, tap the BBC Code tab, then do a copy on the addy bar, go to Your forum post and somehow do a paste then tap the create post box.

Hello,
Could joebaker3637 or a moderator remove the posts and pictures about joebaker3637's '62 Airflyte from this build thread on my 63 Astrodome so it is not confusing. He has started a new thread now anyway. I am sure it was just a mistake but I would appreciate it. Thanks, Dan

Frame is now painted and ready to start building. Going to a building supply place that has several types of plywood to choose from. Will try to make choices, but before I buy, I will try to figure the materials list.

Joe, No, it is just paint. I used Rustoleum Red Oxide primer and Rustoleum Black. I actually did it with a brush, last time I spray painted in my shop it took forever to clean the mess. So no more spraying in the shop. A friend across the road has a paint booth but he had a car in it so i tried this and it worked pretty good. As always prep makes a difference.

Worked on wheel tubs. Bought these tubs and then cut them in half and added metal to make them wider. Spot welded, primed, seam sealed and painted. Ready to install as soon as they dry. Also ordered two new tanks, a fresh water tank and a grey-water tank. Hopefully will start some framing next week.
