Hey, Yes it was a "home made Spare Holder" the PO welded on the bumper. I cut the bumper off. Thinking I may start from scratch and build a new frame. Looks like I paid for a pattern and title.
Shop has 12' ceiling so I can lift car projects on 2 post lift. Door is 10' x 16'.

Baby got new shoes. Decided to upsize tires and wheels. Since I am building a new frame I decided that since I can position the axle anywhere I want the best thing to start with was a heavier set of wheels and tires. Got to get off on the right foot so to speak. Went with 8" trailer wheels rated at 2200# each and ST 225/75r15 10 ply tires rated at 2850# each. The weight of the finished project will increase due to the added features and heavier construction but should still come in under 4400 pounds.

Yea I know :~). That is a problem I have always had, overbuilding. Here it is on the way. Since I am adding a 30 gallon black water tank and larger fresh water tank and other improvements I figured the frame should be a little heavier. However, anything would be heavier than an original Shasta frame. In my opinion, the original frames were way to lightweight. I am also adding shocks to help cut down on the rocking motion.

Looking good. I wonder if anyone has detailed drawings for the various campers. By the time you're building from scratch from frame to roof a title would be the only reason to buy one. Aside from saying its a "restoration". I know Missouri just requires a highway patrol inspection on home made trailers over 16' to get a homemade trailer title. Under 16' they just create one at the dmv.

My plan from the onset was to just redo what needed to be done. But, when I started getting into this I could not go on without making some improvements but now we know what that turns into. A complete rebuild. "Have title will Travel"
I have used the mig welder for body work on a couple of car projects. It works great for 18 gauge to about 1/4". I use a Lincoln 175 square wave tig for stainless steel and heavier mild steel.

I have never welded with one, I have seen welds done with the SW welders and they are pretty. A friend, has a personal machine shop. He does a lot of gunsmithing. I seen a front sight that He had welded onto a barrel, using a SW welder. That was theee prettiest weld I have ever seen. so small of a bead that it blended the sight and the barrel as one.
