I am picking this up to start a new one. The Good- skin, doors, windows, will fit in garage, and free. The Bad- someone else tore out the inside, rotten, snakes, not sure how to frame it back to exactly fit the skin.

Pretty sure the snakes would keep me from touching that one! Even if they are dead! I know that some people build a new frame by laying the skin out together in the garage, and tracing it. Have fun. You are brave!

Best wishes! Its so funny the desire to get another once you are finished. Even with mine, I was dreading all I had to do on it unexpectedly, yet after I was done with all I wanted to do I had a bit of a hole in my heart... Weird. What is it with these things. There isnt any of this going on with the boxy newer pieces of junk.

There isnt any of this going on with the boxy newer pieces of junk. Two years ago I didn't know what a vintage camper was. Bought an old camper, when we started trying to patch the damage I realized it had no structural integrity. Between that and the mold we tore it all the way down and used what was left as a pattern. Trial and error, a good wife, youtube and lots of new tools we made lemonade. It turned out way better than I thought it would. In fact Alicia doesn't want it used for for hunting. A friend gave us this one because it was her childhood camper and she didn't want it going to the scrap yard. I never thought something like this would turn into a hobby.

We started the clean up and tear down today. The floor is rotten so I am going down to the frame. The trailer has an aluminum floor pan under 1 1/2 inch blue board insulation covered with floating 5/8 plywood. The suspension is low profile torque, one side is riding low and needs to be repaired. This trailer was very insulated, 2x4 frame with 1 1/2 blueboard all around. I am trying to decide if I want to rebuild it like it is or make a more rounded style body, replace the torque suspension with springs, get rid of the pan and floating floor. I definitely like the building part better than the tear down.

I hear ya on liking the build, ChickenFarmer. Seems to take forever to take one apart and so UNproductive... I like that it has blueboard, can you save it? Post some more pictures so we can see!
This trailer has a cool retro shape that might be worth saving. They are classy when cleaned up. I suggest getting rid of the metal belly as a good way to go. There isn't a perfect solution to belly material, but metal causes the floor to sweat and the runners to rot. I've used 1/8 Masonite with good results, coated on the under side.
In fact, I've experimented with drilling holes in a metal belly to allow the floor cavity to breathe, but not sure it does much good.

What what was this (uncovered void) used for? The refrigerator was above and to the left. Everything from the wheel wells back was stripped out before I got it. The kitchen was on the other side. The water connections were intact in front.

Some pre demo pics. Rear half, aluminum floor pan showing. Structural support? Thankfully front cabinets and dinette in good shape. I think the head is saveable, One thing for sure, I can do no harm.

You have the VTV (Vintage Trailer Virus). As you probably already know, there is only one known cure. JUST ONE MORE TRAILER! It looks like a fun project. I to am afflicted and understand fully your condition! Ha-Ha, Ha-Ha! Hope You are having a great Labor Day weekend>

You've got your work cut out but it looks like fun to me. Enjoy.
I think the void was the furnace exhaust.

Thanks to my beautiful wife of 27 years we had a productive weekend. Not much for frame, a few 2xs skin glued to blue board glued to paneling. Thinking about beefing up frame and new suspension.

You are brave! Found no snakes, but it was infested with brown recluse spiders. I don't like spiders and snakes...
