Thanks for the link. The vent is for a 3" flex pipe but it looks like your inside pipes are wider. Is that right?

That looks like a clean installation, and more in line with my carpentry skills. Does the unit make much noise when running?

Yes, I had to reduce down to fit the 3" vents.

Medium noise -- you definitely know it is running, but not any louder than roof top or window type A/C units

That's a nice clean install. I'm not far from Alabama (Middle Tennessee) and I know what you mean about necessity!
When I had a similar setup (mounted in the front of the trailer) in a previous canned ham, I had trouble when driving in the rain. The water would actually come right through the A/C unit - not around, but through. I partially solved the problem by making a cover for the unit, but it always leaked some when traveling in heavy rain. In fact, I always installed the cover when traveling just to keep the air from spinning the fan blade, etc.

This is my favourite air conditioner solution. You put a regular air conditioner on drawer runners and it pulls in and out during use. Except I am going to do it on a side access door, so that it is on the utility side of the trailer. I have empty storage areas under seats near the rear of the trailer that fit it perfectly. I will also put a hood/ vent over the front outlet and join it to a hidden duct in the wall that runs up to exit near the ceiling. Thats the great thing about pulling the skins off your trailer. You can do a lot! www.nationalserroscotty.org/resources/ac/ac-Doggone it.. Everyone had that conversation here a few weeks ago ad I cannot find a unit small enough for my storage door. Would totally do the same if I could.

What is the dimension of your storage unit area? I have a really small air conditioner. I've been meaning to measure it. It will do that this week. It's still sitting in the box. When I bought it I searched for months for one (if I remember correctly I needed under 12 inches? But maybe it was 11 and under ) and I found this one at Walmart in Canada. I took it out of the box in the store to double check the size. lI'll let you know.

I think some of the creative, non-roof installations pictured in this thread are preferred to roof mounts. It's not just about creating structural support, but you are putting an odd, high center of gravity weight into the towing equation of your trailer. Something to think about if it were my trailer. This, coming from someone who lives in the southwest, with dry heat . Even it that weren't the case, I would not include AC in my rig. I do have the Fantastic Vent, and it does make a measurable difference in comfort even when not in dry climates. Also a nice interior fan over the bunk. I guess that's where I draw the line in camping… find a shady camping spot. Just a suggestion …….

Are your vents a metal chrome with a black plastic base? Or is the chrome part plastic? Thanks again.
