I was surfing eBay today. Saw some cool old record players... got me wondering what everyone is using for music in their trailer? Anyone collecting 45's...?

Oooh great question. I like to have tunes going a lot. At home I wifi my phone to speakers. Hadn't even considered what I'd set up for on the road, will be interested to hear what folks do.

I have a vintage radio that I am going to install a blue tooth speaker in that works with my iPhone, but I am thinking it would be cool to have a record player outside.. would like to see this if someone has a set up.

Vicx uses his phone and a bluetooth speaker. The kids that wander by help him turn the volume up or down... Snicker.

I have 2 turntables, one works on batteries. The other is also the portable suitcase style but does not run on batteries. They are great for spinning the old vinyl on. but most of the time we just listen to the old 60's radio I have.

I would love to find a vintage old radio and somehow take the guts out and retrofit it with a bluetooth type stereo system similar to what is in the newer RVs.

I found the perfect solution to the music for a vintage trailer issue and it's in this thread vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/6866/old-radio-new-musicMy first radio is toast, but I'm busily searching for another that I like and isn't an arm and a leg. I haven't been able to get to any local antique stores or flea markets due to my back flaring up again, but hopefully after my last injection on the 30th I can. But this is a great option I think and it's easy and you don't have to gut the radio, just add a little 2 x 2" amplifier. The old radio doesn't even have to work, just the speaker be good, or you can replace that too.

This is my radio that I am going to gut. It was my first purchase for my vintage trailer a couple of years back! Boy, did I not know what I was getting into. I only paid $15.00 for it. It had a crack across the top but I used epoxy on it and it doesn't show now. I tried to read the article, but I found it a bit technical for my skill level in small electronics. I can rewire a lamp or switch, but not sure if I can get the parts or do it the way they said in the article above. That being said, my blue tooth speaker is really loud, so I am thinking if I just gut this thing, and remove everything but the cloth speaker cover inside it, I should be able to just stick my speaker in their facing out and it will work. I would like somehow to keep the light on the front of the radio however because it makes the face light up. Apparently there is a ham radio club in my town that a friend of mine is part of. (I always tease her that when world war 3 starts, her club will be the ones who have all the power!) lol. Anyway, I am thinking someone in that club may be able to help me with the wiring. Its a winter project this year on my BIG list.

You have to actually get down past all his tech speak, but it really is easy to do. I guess forgot I linked to the story not the site to get the amplifier and the instructions. thingylab.com/2015/08/bluetooth-amplifier-installation/That's for the Bluetooth amplifier, which my son made me realize I have more trouble than luck with so we went with a regular plug in amplifier. That way I don't drive myself nuts when the stuff doesn't connect like it's supposed to.

I use a BOSE bluetooth speaker I got from an outlet store - given the small space, having my entire music collection on my phone (or on a small device like an iPod) is critical. PRO TIP: Do you have a "docking" style speaker setup like THIS, that does NOT have bluetooth, and want an easier and more convenient way to stream your music right over the air? Good news: you can ADD BLUETOOTH to any such device for only about $30 with a gizmo like THIS ONE! I've been using this exact unit for years with my older BOSE (which did not have blutetooth capabilities) and it works flawlessly. This is a good way of getting an older speaker setup built for out-of-date phones or iPods and modernizing them to full wireless capability.

That looks fun! I have realized that if I buy a record player it needs to be one that has the automated swing arm that holds and drops a stack of records so that I can put a bunch on there. I have book marked the name of a guy on eBay who rehabs and sells them. Its at the bottom of my wish list until I finish the trailer a bit more, but I think it would be a fun accessory that would be the makings of an outside dance party. SaveSave

We fitted Hamlet for Bluetooth, iPod, etc, but usually don't listen to music, well, sometimes we'll bring a guitar or fiddle.

My plan is to use Sirus/xm radio tuner. They are small and can be hidden in most any style old radio and sound can be sent to speakers anywhere inside or outside. Plus gives you many instant music styles to choose from.
