I have a 66 Shasta Super and the original hitch won't lock down. There is 2 slots on the top of the hitch that the release/clamp latch doesn't line up. The latch has 2 teeth that should fit into the slots when clamped in the locking position. My question is there an adjustment I can make to line these up. I see a screw just above the latch on the hitch. I was wondering if this might be tge ticket to adjust. Here is a picture of the hitch. I am not familiar with this type of hitch. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Michelle aka monabones

When it is on the ball, does the collar go all the way down? And do you have a hole (or two) for a lock? If it goes all the way down and you can lock it (with a lock and key) and it is secure, you should be good. When you pick the collar up, it should slide back, if unlocked, then slide forward when it goes down. The lock will prevent it from sliding back. You may be able to adjust it with the screw. I haven't figured that screw out yet. My "teeth" do fit in the slots but they don't really hold it down. Maybe they've worn over the years. But it is secure with a lock. I have two holes and put a pin lock through mine.
Just curious, does yours have a spring in it?

It does fit around the ball and the collar does close all the way. I was just worried because the latch won't fit into the slots. I do have a hole to put a pin or lock on which I will do. I am going to be towing this trailer to CA for a client. Thanks for the info and I did see some other info last night on a previous post.
