We took the stove out yesterday, so we can start working on the galley counter and cabinetry. The oven still needs the final vestiges of the rat kingdom therein removed, as well as the whole stove being tested to see if it works. We have tried prying the knobs off, to better clean both them and the stove, but they are being stubborn. Do they pry off just like any other, or is there a trick to it? I would hate to break them by forcing them. Are the openings (see red arrow) for adjusting the amount of air that gets to the burners, so the flame on high is primarily blue and not any yellow? Also, does the insulation go between the inner and outer walls, and where do you get it?

I have a Holiday stove and my knobs just pull off pretty easily like any other stove. I hope someone didnt glue yours on or something... ya know know what people will do... If they dont budge I would just leave them on and clean the best I could...

Thanks Mel. My bf pried the knobs off, one sustained a little damage, but he says he can glue it. They were just stuck on from years of gunk. He went out to clean the whole thing some more, and when I checked on it later, he had taken all of burners out, and scoured everything. And it still isn't finished. Those rats got everywhere, and must have been livin' large in there for a long time. Yuck.

Insulation is available at stove or fireplace companies. Explain that you need high heat insulation. Take the stove apart and you'll see where it goes. (both sides and back, some have insulation at the top)

Thanks. I don't plan on using the oven, but one never knows. And one also never knows what the next owner may have in mind. It may not occur to them that what looks like a perfectly serviceable oven, may not be.
