...a 19__ Monitor camper. I think it's a late 60's model. The paint on the tongue was so thick, there was no way to see anything on it, so we have some stripping and sanding to do to locate the VIN. This thing, to all of you guys, I am sure is a total nightmare...the previous owner gooped silicone around all windows and seams and brush painted the outside with house paint, even over the aluminum window frames. There is interior evidence of leaks, but it hasn't been painted inside and the birch looks good except for the spots it doesn't...lol. She feels solid, the axle, wheels, and metal supports underneath look good. No bubbles or ripples in the skin, except for a small dent in the front. The 2 hour drive home on the highway at 60+ was nothing for her. The floor and edges seem solid, we poked into the frame. All in the back floor corners, there is surface water damage and flaking, but when we really poke at it, there's good wood there still. We plan to take her skin off this fall and see what we've got. I know this could be major...but there was something about this one I couldn't walk away from. I love the shape, and the birch interior, and it's the perfect size and layout for the three of us. Anyway, armed with the knowledge I've gained from this forum, a flashlight, a ladder, and a awl...we obtained the trailer for half of what he was asking. And now she's in my yard, waiting for fun.
So of course, I want to know the history of this camper and the company that made it. There are two nameplates on the camper, one by the door and one over the front running lights, that say "Monitor Coach, INC. Wakarusa, Indiana". I can't find anything online about this company. I found a 70's brochure for Monitor America on Amazon, but those models are more squared off and none have the same layout. Some sites have directed me over to the FAN company, which have late 60's models that look very similar to this camper and were also made in Wakarusa. Do any of you know anything about Monitor Coach, or where I can find more info?
