Thanks everyone for your comments, I don't know why I keep giving this kid chance after chance, but I have definitely learned my lesson.
Got deeper into the radio today and it's a total loss. So my son and I will hit the antique stores and the flea market next weekend looking for a new one to start over with. I am absolutely not letting that one be touched by anyone but myself and my son. I know he has experience with electronics and has always succeeded in his projects. He's actually glad it failed because he was looking forward to doing the work with me. I wish I would have known that before, but he finally spoke up and I'm glad.
So I'm excited again about the project, and maybe I can find a radio I like a bit more than I did this one. At least I have the right color paint this time because no matter what color it starts out it will be aqua when finished 😁

Thanks for the link to the instructions to transform my old radio.. I'm saving it for a winter project. Very exciting. But I'm so sorry to hear what happened to yours. So maddening. I'm so glad I inspired you to do one. That was the reason I posted this to begin with. There just aren't any cute retro radios out there, and this way we can repurpose a piece of the past and save it from the trash. I expect to see yours when you get it going. Enjoy the project

Retroradiofarm.com
Also directions on youtube to do it yourself.
You can make any tube radio play mp3's with a little mod.

I have a few old radios that still work. Believe it or not, these radios play ANY kind of music and Broadcast in ANY language. They are like Magic Radios :-)
