Shasta brethren, I ran through all the posts in this section looking to see if this info was already in there, but I couldn't really find anything.
Two details I'm trying to determine for my '58 (probably any Airflyte through the early 60s would be about the same): 1) Does anyone have a good picture of what the bed looks like? The PO of mine replaced the original convertible bed/couch with a permanent bed that filled the space from the back wall all the way to the counter/cabinet. In the sprucing up process, I removed all that and I would like to make a convertible like the original. It doesn't have to be EXACT, but I'm just wondering what it looked like in general. I believe it had a drawer or something in the middle? How did it slide in and out? Just a couple pictures of how the framing looks when its a couch and when its a bed would be great if anyone has one. The reason I ask now is because I'm about to put the new skin on and if I need nailers behind the plywood to hold the bedframe up, I want to get them in the right spot.
2) Anyone got a picture (or a bargman part numer?) for the latches/handles on the rear baggage bin doors? PO had replaced them with regular old padlock hasps. Again, I'm not a purist that I must exactly the same part, but I'd like to order something that at least looks close. I just don't even know what I'm looking for.
Thanks for the help! Chris

That lock from VTS is a correct replacement for what's on my '63 Airflyte.
As to the bed, mine is original, but I won't be reunited with my trailer until near the end of June. If you still need a picture then, I'll be happy to take one.

Perfect! That's easy. For some reason, I was thinking there was an actual latch handle, so you could close it but not necessarily lock it. So the actual design is you just push it closed and lock it shut everytime? I can do that.

Chris, You also might check your local hardware store for cabinet or drawer locks. They usually come in various lengths from 5/8" up to 1 1/8". They are almost exactly the same thing and could save a few bucks in shipping.

I ordered from vintage trailer supply and bought some from home depot. Seem to be exactly the same. Only difference is I think that vts was able to key them alike so I only had to have one key for both access doors.

Are the layouts pretty much the same as a 58 Shasta? They look close, I can get pics of the framing from mine tomorrow. And I will get a pic of the sliding part of the bed if needed. The he locks on my 58 are the exact same offered on vi tage trailertrailersupply.com for $9.94, I will be ordering a couple myself soon.

Your camper looks like a great restoration candidate.
I think 58 & 59 were almost the identical layout.

Roktac, thanks!! Those are hugely helpful. Darn it. I threw that headboard box out. It just didn't look original. Oh, well... I guess I'll make another one... Just one follow-up question:
It doesn't look like there is any additional support on the sides (like side-rails) for when you pull the bed out. Does it just sit on the wheel-well boxes?
And I see there's no back support when it is slid back into a couch... The mattress just slides up the back wall? That should be simple to make. I like the flip-down door. That looks sharp.
Thanks again for the pictures!

Roktac, I've never seen the framing go in before the birch panel. How does the birch overlap the side walls for support the way you have it now? I always go birch panel first, framing over the birch, insulation next followed by vapor barrier and skin. A great source for Shasta framing can be found at cannedhamtrailers.com Check out the Shasta series. Two photos from that series:

Nccamper- The framing is on loose, I will be putting the paneling under it. Just rebuilt the window frame and added new framing when I took the old panel off
Chris, there is no rails... I will get your a pic of the "sliding" part of the bed ... Need to pull it out to rebuild it anyway, and there is no backboard, for the bed or couch to slide on, at least not on my trailer... By the way Chris, where are the pics of your trailer...was told when I got on here about 2 months ago pics are required

The head board part is not original to the layout, the bed was "wall-to-wall". The simplest possible was usually the actual. The flip-down door was original and opened into a cargo area that was accessible from both end outside... a great storage for awnings and poles, jack stands,, etc. I did not get any photos before mine was dismantled but will put it rough;y together to give an idea. If the new kittens will let me that is...

Mine has that cabinet and pretty sure it is original. Are you talking about the one that is on the streetside end? All I have seen had that cabinet and a little tray between it and the kitchen cabinet.
