I have a friend who has a window company. He has offered me some rolls of "Standard glazing tape" which he calls putty tape. Is this the same as the stuff we use on our trailers? He says each roll is 1/8 inch x 1 inch x 30 feet.

Might be. If it's not too sticky, it might work. Some glazing tape is way too sticky to work with. (as in setting glass: windex is needed to prevent instant STICK)
There are a lot of different putty tapes. RV putty tape is made for window/door/vent flanges. It is trim-able and fairly consistent to work with. Your window person should be able to give more info.
