Here is a good thread to have your friend begin the size and style information research, if s/he is planning to DIY them. Check this thread. www.freewebs.com/kc8jwa/wings.htmIf s/he might be looking for a source who makes the correct wings one of our Members makes real nice wings. Check out the thread/post below... Tyler Wings - Highly Recommend...they are quality reproductions! I have asked my wife to buy a set of Tyler Wings for me, when I die, to put in my coffin...I'm pretty sure that is the only way I'm going to get a set!

Ah, you'll get wings when you die, for sure, but maybe not aluminum. You've already earned your wings by your presence on this board. Amen

I think they were 27X7. I would not guarantee it, but that was the most common size for the time period.

If you only have an upper bunk window on one side, be sure to measure that side for wing size. On our 18' Super, we made wings by measuring off the curb side forgetting that the street side had the bunk window - the wing for that side was too long because the bunk window was in the way. We made the wings from wood so we just had to cut it down so no problem for us. The wings we made were 42" but I think they were probably originally shorter, but we liked the look of the longer wings. The holes, where the original wings were mounted, indicated they were 9" high which correlates to 42" wings according to the pattern below. This is the pattern we used to make the wings: www.freewebs.com/kc8jwa/ShastaWing2.pdf

My compact has 8x32, so I agree with Callie go with the 42"

My compact has 8x32, so I agree with Callie go with the 42" I think my '62 compact has 42" wings. I'll have to measure because now I'm curious.

mobiltec , did the Super you are working on have its wings? No. Neither one of them did. One is a 66 Super 18 and the other is a Super 19. I'm going to put wings on both of them. Think I'll put some wings on the Lakewood as well.
