vikx recommended Alumabrite and I think it did an excellent job. I believe it is a mixed acid & cleaner combo. You use it full strength as a spray or 50/50 as a bath. I think mobiltec's acid is stronger and cheaper but hard to find.
I would try a bath for one smaller piece rather than a spray. I called the manufacturer and they say the bath is more effective.

When you say a "bath" does that just mean to submerge it?

On a side note, Blue Magic polish has ammonia in it which seems to have helped clean the metal a little. Deep pitting may just be there permanently.

Are you sure that is aluminum? And if so is it just a poor grade that will not clean up? I do wooden screen doors so I have not had to deal with an aluminum door yet.

Definitely aluminum, not really sure about grade, maybe some else on here with experience knows. I just dont understand why everyone else seems to have no problems with cleaning the windows/doors/trim up... it must just be me, right?

UGH!!! Polishing aluminum is the pits, literally and figuratively. I have done an acid bath, cone wire brush, Scotchbrite, steel wool, aluminum polish, etc etc. and still have them nowhere near an acceptable level. I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, so I'm just here to commiserate, not look for more suggestions.
