Keri, on my '76, everything that's wood and all the skin sits above everything that's steel. No parts of the "box" go down into the tongue area, or below the top surface of any of the steel frame (except propane lines). I was just trying to figure out why yours would do that, but looking at some pics of compacts, it looks like the steel frame must be intermingled with the wooden subfloor frame.
If it's Home Depot Birch, it's .203", or 1.624 8ths.

Yeah, mine definitely goes down below the top part of the frame. The tongue "v" that widens and extends all the way back to the back sits above the parts of the frame that run side to side--with 2x4s sitting on top of the frame to build it all up to the same level as the "v" tongue part of the frame.
That probably made no sense. Lol.
But I made it work! The cinder block wood-bending method did the trick. Although Vikx was right--I think I have the little bit thicker wood. I knew that all along but I guess I didn't think 1/16" would make so much difference!!!!! I'll make sure to find the 1/8" stuff for the back to save myself more frustration.
My trailer has a new front end!! Woohoo!!

That made perfect sense.
So you used a sort of redneck steam-bending technique, hehe. Good job.

There is supposed to be a piece of framing laying across the top of the floor at the front and cut on the same angle as the sides are. That is what you fasten the bottom of the birch to. The birch starts at the top of the tongue frame fastening to that piece of angled framing I just spoke of. It's in my videos. There is one of these in the front and in the back.

There wasn't one across the front in mine Larry. Or at least not all the way across. It only went from one dinette to the other, but I went ahead and added it all the way across when I re-did it, which will mean altering the dinette bases, but it just seemed like a better idea. I'm not sure how the back was done, unfortunately. The birch was completely rotten at the back floor. I'm going to redo it like in your videos, with it cut in and resting on the floor, but I don't think it was originally done like that just judging from the way the floor was (the floor wasn't actually rotten, strangely enough, just the birch). I wish I could find another trailer like mine just for these reasons!!!! Sometimes it's nice to see what it should look like.

Every trailer has room for improvement so there is nothing wrong with a few additions that make things work better and easier for you.
