Maybe this should be in the "interior" thread? Hard to tell.
Anyway, I'm at the stand of replacing the paneling across the front. How can I get the middle to make that curve? I'm using 1/8" paneling, and the sides are curving okay, but the middle is not--it's just going flat--which is making it impossible to fit my piece in. The front piece I'm working on goes from below the windows all the way down to about 3" below the floor and is notched out around the trailer tongue.
How can I make the middle section curve?? I've had a few really good weeks working on the trailer--guess its about time I run across another problem. Lol.

Are you attaching your side to side stringers.. your braces? They should keep the panel curving evenly.

I can't get it to bend enough to even attach both sides at the very top. The problem is that it goes down on each side of the tongue of my trailer and in between the two metal channels as well. Since it's not bending in the middle it's not bending enough to let me get the second side attached. If that makes sense.

You mean your camper has a horizontal curve as well as a vertical curve?

I just screwed my birch in on the side framing, then screwed in my horizontal framing in on the front to push the birch in. below the window framing I screwed a 1 by 3 in at the stabilizing board location, one at the table hardware location, one half way to the floor, and one at the floor. Four 1X3’s along the front took care of that problem.

You mean your camper has a horizontal curve as well as a vertical curve? No, there's just a vertical curve--I'm not explaining it well. Lol. Because it won't follow the edge bend in the middle, and the trailer tongue is in the way, I can attach it at one side but the flat middle means I can't get the whole piece to drop down enough to attach to the other side. It's the stupid trailer tongue that's my issue. It's in my way!! Lol. I'll take a picture tomorrow if I still can't figure it out. I left it like it was tonight thinking maybe gravity would help things out. Lol. Never hurts to try!'

Hamlet's person is going to ask a REALLY silly question, but, are you doing the panel vertically or horizontally?

Just had to ask. It's something Hamlet's lady person would have done because that way the hearts that were in the grain of the wood would have gone up and down on the ends of the trailer!

Seems weird for it to go down in between the tongues like that. I'd think it would stop at the floor.

I guess it could stop at the floor but there would be nothing to screw the bottom into, other than the thin floor. I could (and probably will anyway) run a board along the floor in the interior, but that's not the way it was originally. It seems weird to me too but that's the way they had it (all the way past the floor). The back paneling that comes down to the floor was done strange in mine too.

Well, I meant stopping at the bottom of the front wall, which is then attached to the floor (with the bottom of the paneling squished between wall and floor framing), all of which sits on top of the steel, like mine was built. Does the steel frame lie on the same plane as the wooden subfloor in an old compact?

I guess I don't really understand what you mean Cowcharge. Either way, even if it didnt come down below the floor I think I would have a hard time making it bend in the middle. I'm not really using proper birch paneling, whic may be part of the problem, but it's still only 1/8" thick so it *should* work. I have my piece laid across a couple of sawhorses placed end-to-end right now and I got it wet and tied it to some cinder blocks to make it bend. I'll let it dry that way and see what happens. May ruin the wood, who knows, but it just may work too.
WHAT A PAIN!!! Lol. I'm glad I have my skeet shooting league tonight. It will be nice to go shoot some little orange clays.

Been There....
As you install the panel, screw a block (skinny screw) in the middle to the rafter/cross board. It will hold the panel in the middle and the next. Of course, you will be tacking the rest with a stapler.
I'm having a hard time understanding how a 1/8 panel wouldn't "bend". They are so floppy, it makes 'em hard to cut.
Are you SURE they are not 3/16 panels?
