Yesterday while sanding out a cupboard I found a couple of odd items. So I showed Dave (the dude doing the restoration work) my findings, and he says "Oh yeah that reminds me...the other day I found this inside the front wall by the door." and he pulls out a penny. I stepped outside the trailer so I could read the date better, and it is a 1957 penny! Omigosh how cool is that! I verbosely said "I bet a Shasta worker put it in there!" Dave thinks it's worth about $10 bucks now (thanks to Google information). I get back to my sanding, and as the menial work continues my imagination wanders......I could picture some fella who works in the Shasta factory in Van Nuys, CA (where she was built) who places a penny from his pocket into every trailer he works on. He tucks it in inconspicuously with hopes that someday, a person in the future may find it somehow. It's like his little time capsule secret he is creating for all the Shastas he is a part of working on. Then. It hit me. Her name will be Penny. You can read the entire story on my trailer blog at 1958shasta.blogspot.com/2013/08/treasures-from-trailer.html

That's cool! I found a '74 quarter in my back wall, but Quarter's a crappy name.

I bet that is exactly what happened because as journeyman drywall hanger I used to do the same thing in houses I was hanging. I would put a drywall nail through a penny which ruins it of course, and nail it to the king stud next to the front entrance door. Did that on most of the houses I worked in. so it's in the thousands and thousands. Geeesh I wonder how much money I gave away over the years.
If you are wondering how I got the nail through the penny it's very simple. First I hang the upper wall sheet which is just tacked in at the top. Then put the nails into the bottom seam at each stud. We only put nails in the king stud which is part of the door framing and not the trimmer because the dimple, even though it has been mudded will show when the casing goes over it. We used to take pride in our work so things like that were done. It's the way we used to be taught when there was a union. Back then we were called "Skilled Workers". Now they have nothing but unskilled workers building homes. But I digress....
Once I had the sheet tacked up I would slide a penny between the back of the sheet and the king stud. The pressure would hold it there. Then I would set a nail in the drywall right where the penny is and then drive it in with one lick. (one swing of the ax (drywall hammer). Now this is not as easy as it sounds. If you miss, you leave a giant hole in the wall for the tapers to fix and that's a bad place to have to do a repair, especially at eye level.
It was something I would do to impress what ever apprentice happened to be working with me that day. It was also a good way to win a 6 pack of beer. You bet him that you can drive a nail through a penny in one lick. Worked every time.
Love the name Penny for your trailer. I have thought about naming my next dog Penny.

Cowcharge - Take a look at that quarter - you could call your trailer "George."

George isn't bad...
Two Bits might be appropriate, considering my budget and skill level.
Time Campsule is just awful, lol.

We found "seeds" in our trailer. That wouldn't have been a very good name, but maybe should have name it Bud

Someone named a cab-over camper I had on a brand new truck. While I was away from the truck a sign maker friend of mine put a big vinyl sign on the right side in blue letters stuck to the skin that said....
PORTA PARTY
