Hi all! Well my wife and I made the first mistake in vintage camper buying...ebay. Wish I knew about this forum first. That being said we are in love with our camper and are enjoying the restoration project. Our baby is a 1953 Schiebout Little Gem, 19'. Outside of a facebook group finding information on our camper has been very difficult. Fortunately it's a very good group with some very helpful insights. I'm really looking forward to interacting with and learning from everyone on here! To Larry's first post on here, our walls do sit on the floor and then the ceiling/roof on top of the walls. Thanks and happy camping!

Wow! Although I have done "some" minor work on a couple of Oasis' I did not know that the walls sat up on top of the floor. I have only seen that in much larger trailers like park models. Never seen it on a canned ham. See I told you I don't have all the answers which was why I came to this forum in the first place. What year is your Oasis Swirly? And does anyone know of other trailers where the walls sit up on top of the floor? That would make replacing the floor impossible without removing the walls completely.

Larry, Kerry here I'm one of your students. Im practicing learning how to use this site as you told us this is the place to go for information. My 1964 Ionia-a-Home has no skirtboards. Walls are on the floor. I'm fortunate so far the floor does not look or feel rotted.

One of the good things about this kind of layout is that the walls will never drop to the asphalt due to rotten skirt boards. But the bad thing that can happen is that the whole box blows off the chassis due to rotten bottom plates. Once you remove or raise the skins to see the framing down low you'll know what is going on.

Hi Mobiltech, My 64 Glendale Glendette, 16' by 7' wide, is also walls on top of the floor. We will have to replace part of the floor at the front and back so its going to be a fun restoration! I just got some of the skins pulled today to see how bad parts are. The rear wall is completely shot! Ill be watching your videos for sure! photos.app.goo.gl/8zgLxonJsNn7rtvc8

I was given a Kit Companion 1700SCS and I can't figure out what year it is. It was made in Idaho. I think it's a 1969, but I can't find any information about it or find any diagrams.
It is a single axle trailer with: ~The door towards the front ~Big side slatted windows above a pull out sofa bed ~There is a place near the stove where there is a built in Coleman Lantern that connects through the propane system ~The dining table (bed conversion) is to the right of the door and there is a tri-fold (really heavy) fold down bed above it. ~The back end of the trailer has a storage closet, 3 drawers with a window above and a bathroom ~Between the bathroom and dining is a closet, the stove with burners & overhead fan, a single sink, and a refrigerator ~The stove, the overhead fan and the refrigerator is a turquoise color ~The counter and backsplash have original turquoise accents
Do you have any ideas? Also, have you taken apart a Kit Companion? If so, can you point me towards those videos?
Thanks, Chris, Lake Wenatchee

Many times the year is on there. Also you can look at the bottom side of the sink. That too might have the year on it. The VIN may be of some help. Photos would help as well.

Hi and welcome, I am going to guess this is a 1967 model. The marker lights are at the belt line and not above the windows where they were moved in 1968 per federal law. Do an internet search on "1967 Kit Companion 1500 vintage trailer" and see what comes up. You will probably come across a trailer similar to yours, but shorter by 2 feet with a turquois stripe on the side. It's a model 1500. Same overall design, just shorter. Yours is a 17 footer. The one online is a 15 footer. Peg it at 1967 unless someone can find fault with my reasoning. Cheers, Rod
