I'm a newbie to this website. I have my first Shasta not sure the year-bought it as a '55, but thinking its closer to a '57? Was told when they sit "out back" and someone finally does it a favor and gets rid of it, usually title is long gone. They just register it as a ("think I bought that in '55") must be a 1955. So anywho... here's some pics of my recent project: www.flickr.com/photos/187558041@N03/albums/72157713593413312or past: ourtincan.com/

Cute little trailer, Jodee. Shasta started using wings in 1958, so I'm guessing your trailer is a 58 at the earliest.

Hi am JP and Skooter is ready to begin a new restoration phase. He's my first project which I realize I probably paid too much for but it's been hard to find something worth restoring in my area. Skooter is a 13' 1969 KIT Companion with most all original trim, windows, rock awning, hardware, cabinets, and running lights. The former owners did DIY fixes to the ceiling, floors, backsplash, and window coverings. My plan is to remove all of the windows, J-rail, skins and any rotted wood form the framing. The previous owner caulked the c£@? Out of the windows so I know this will be a long and tedious project but I shall overcome. Because most of the trailer is original and in decent shape I am considering keeping the cabinets the same if I can find out what type of wood veneer it has. Please advise me if you know what I need to order and where I can get it from. Also I will need to replace some of the skin due to the rear storage hatch has failed and has caused the skin to tear. ( I'm sure the framing around it has rotted out and needs to be repaired.) So if someone can tell me what kind of siding is needed for this repair and where to find it I would be most greatful. Any additional info would be most welcome and thank you for letting me join. I'm really looking forward to the new adventures skooter and I will be able to have with all of your help.

Hello Skooter and welcome. Here is a link to post photos. I think it's important to get some photos up first. vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/7276/add-photos-hosted-flickr-tutoriaIntroduce your trailer with photos of both interior and exterior pictures in another new thread. Entitle it with the year and model of your trailer. Then ask for help on creating a list of needed repairs based on priority. It sounds like you have a lot of work to do and you will need help in doing it safely and with integrity. After you get a list of mini projects, as that's what you will be doing - mini projects, then start threads when you need help with each mini project. You can also do research here on the forum. Others have been down the road you are about to travel. Video tutorials are available at www.cannedhamtrailers.com/ He also offers a Patreon Class on Patreon.com. Good luck. Rod

This is FUN.
Thanks for the great vids, Larry. You mentioned a video you called "Anatomy of a Trailer" but I don't see that on your site. Send link? Thanks!
P.S. I'm restoring a 1963 Kenskill trailer. Oh boy! Lots of work ahead of me.

Hi Kyla, Anatomy of a Vintage Trailer is a series of videos available to students in Larry's online classes (on Patreon). You can sign up for the classes from his website (www.cannedhamtrailers.com, there is a link about half way down the first page) or at Patreon (http://www.patreon.com/cannedhamtrailers). Lots of great extra videos and content plus online live classes weekly. Larry's class has helped us tremendously. Gwen

If you want to start with the free material, just watch one of his restorations from start to finish and you will get the gist of how a trailer is built and how it must be repaired.

The patreon videos are not free, nor are Larry's classes but he deserves to get donations. A lot of his videos have always been free.

We joined Larry's class/Patreon a full year before we started disassembly. It took us that long to really get a handle on what we had taken on. We also bought your book which we have read and re-read. Those two resources saved us from giving up or ruining our trailer by not understanding how it was built.

Thank you so much for this! I just took the plunge and bought a 1957 Beemer. She’s been sitting for over a year and I pick her up this weekend. I’ve been looking forever, but they’ve all been either major restorations or wayyyy out of my price range. I’ll be sure to check out the videos, and will be scouring this site as well!

After reading your post Larry, not sure where to start. Looked at a 1953 Spartanette today that has a clean title, and all cabinets, hardware doors. The problem that I see is I can crawl under and see insulation falling down. The steel frame underneath is rusted ( WI winters). The refrigerator is rusted and needs replacement. Some water damage above fridge and around vents. Person wants 11K for unit. I do not know if that is good or not. Advice will be helpful. Thanks BK
