Dang Hamlet. I used to go to Net Electronics all the time. Bought a lot of stuff there. It was a hobby of mine as a kid growing up at the same time you are talking about. I am a licensed ham radio operator so I'm kinda into the geeky stuff but electronics today is no longer at the component level. It's all micro-chipped to I have been left behind. Thing to do is rig a vintage radio to play off your I thingy so you can play your recorded vintage programs.
My dad loved Maverick, Have Gun Will Travel and on Sunday mornings he would roll off the couch laughing at Whiley Coyote and the Road Runner on the Bugs Bunny show. And he was a state senator. LOL... So now you know what politicians USED to do with their Sunday mornings.

"As far as a radio in Hamlet... we don't listen to much but NPR anyway, and it didn't hit the scene until the mid 70s. It's also one more thing to carry, so we don't. We DO have one tip o'the hat to vintage radio, though, although we use an I-Mac to access it... We have loved old radio shows for many years. We don't often let even one evening go by without listening to Have Gun, Will Travel, X Minus One, Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, or Philip Marlowe, or sometimes a comedy. Good stuff. It just fits, on a chilly, rainy evening, to be sitting at the table playing cards, sipping cocoa and listening to an old show in the warm lantern light on the birch. AAAAH! " Does listening to classic rock on the boombox count? How 'bout watching old John Wayne movies, on a laptop plugged into a flatscreen, powered by a solar panel?

Tallulah Belle has a flatscreen panel on the back wall above the side window, to watch DVD's and streaming news on days when the weather is bad. We are also going to get the new Ultimate Ears Boom bluetooth speaker, in lieu of installing a whole sound system. The Boom is powered by rechargable battery with 10-14 hrs battery life, is water resistant and ruggedized, is the same diameter as a soda can so it fits in the cupholder of your bike, and a pair can be synced up for stereo. It produces amazing volume and presence and fills the room with music, without having to place speakers or run wires. We just have to compile a playlist of circa 1960 music to play when at the rallies and camping!

I won a small speaker like that at work, sounds like the same kind as yours. It has a plug for the headphone jack and a USB plug to keep the battery charged, and a wicked bright blue Power LED that you have to keep turned away if you want to watch the movie. Does the top on yours accordion up to give more bass like mine? It's much louder than my laptop speakers, it helps with some streaming movies that aren't very loud.

You couldn't have gone there, that'd be too funny! It's still there, by the way, but I don't know if it's still owned by the family.

My dad's business before he got himself involved in politics (big mistake) was across the street from Cal Worthingon's Dodge lot on Firestone Blvd in Downey.. or is that still South Gate. I forget where the lines are. It was "Walsh Equipment Company". He was one of the largest Massey Ferguson dealers in the country and he gave it up to be a politician which didn't really work out too well. He was your senator. 30th District. He was also Mayor of Huntington Park before that. Where did you go to High School? I went to Hungtington Park High School. Graduated early in 1969 and joined the Air Force at the age of 17 and a half.

My house is full of 30's - 50's furniture so it was only right Coralee be outfitted with vintage. I have all sorts of stuff for her kitchen in vintage. My family is always finding stuff at antique stores and thrift shops.

Mobiltec - Downey High, on time, 1971. Wow, small world. I finally escaped So Cal in 2005. Never liked it growing up, unless I could be in the mountains or the desert (and spent a fair amount of time in both). We had a cabin up above Idyllwild (Pine Cove) and one of my favorite summer Saturday activities was to hike from just outside town up to the top of the Palm Springs Tram, eat lunch and hike down again. Love those mountains. They are all built up now, but back in the late 50s and 60s, it was quiet and corny. I was/am not a sun person, so being in the cool, damp Pacific NW for the past eight+ years has been like heaven to me. We still head south to visit once a year, and I try to make it sometime from late January to early March.
Thanks for the memories!

Small world for sure. And I was up in the Idyllwild area yesterady. Out 74 and off road towards the PCT. My dad lived out his retirement in Palm Desert just at the bottom of the hill on the right if you are going down 74. I used to fly my hang glider off Vista Point. A huge rock lined turn out on the way down 74 into Palm Desert. It's closed to hang gliding now because of the big horn sheep and the monument they just turned it into.

My husband was fighting that Idyllwild fire about a month ago....how is it looking now? It's a beautiful area. He grew up in that area as well. He left Idyllwild to go further south to a fire, then up to Butte county and now to Yosemite. Poor guy gets no rest this summer. That's why I want to finish our Shasta by winter---so he can enjoy when he gets some time off! Back to the dinnerware, I'm still looking but finally found my first piece of red/white graniteware cooking pot...red/white is hard to find. I see it a lot in black and green...u know the speckled camping plates, cookware etc. also bought some vintage 1952 oil lanterns, lots of vintage cowboy decor like spurs and ropes and some old bowls from the 60's. my trailer is gonna b like the old and the new together.

Well they stopped the fire at Idyllwild. I could only see parts of the burn on the way back down. On the way up you really can't see any of the burn area. So your husband did a great job. Second time Idyllwild has been spared since I have lived in the area. The red and white graniteware I have never seen. Only the green and blue... Must be rare.

There's a hardware store in Kerrville called Gibson's. Has almost everything you can think of. And last time I was in, they were selling new red and white graniteware. Of course it's not vintage, but it's dang cute.
