Swamp Witch loves her mid-century stuff. So when we tore into this restoration project, we acquired a set of 1950's 'atomic era' dishes and coffee cups for use in Tallulah Belle. I'm wondering does anyone else have a suite of period correct items for use in their mid century camper?

No we have to use ours every day in the house. My wife says she could buy new ones if I didn't spend so much money on old cars and trailers. You would think after 50 years she would be used to it.

My Kenskill is going to be era correct in every way including and right down to the dishes and silverware. Even the toaster, the radio, the bedding, you name it. And when I am camping in it I want to have era correct clothing to go with it and I just found a great source for vintage clothing. One of my friends dresses up maniquins and stands them outside all decked out in vintage clothing. I think even the maniquins might be vintage.

We found vintage anodized aluminum glasses in like-new condition, flatware in the Oneida Twin Star pattern (discontinued in 1959), and a couple old tea towels. We wanted made in USA, but lightweight and not easily breakable, so we got a retro pattern Corelle for dishes. Our pots and pans are Revere Ware, baking dishes are Nordic Ware and Corning ware. We found made in USA towels, but not sheets. We have a down comforter, our one definite luxury, not made in USA. We have vintage 1950s salt and peppers and an old, on the stove toaster. None of it is in your face vintage, just would be very comfortable if we time-traveled back to 1959.

Cool. I have my eye on a "bachelor's toaster" from way back when. It only makes one slice of toast at a time. Does the whole pop up thing but has only one slot. I already have an AM radio from the 50s that matches my appliances perfect. This thing works and has tubes in it. Remember those?

On a serious note we have a stack of 75 to 150 year old quilts for bedding plus the dishes from our campers we had from the time we were married on are all stored in the attic. It seems like we always kept the old stuff when we sold a unit but never used it just put it in the attic and then bought new for the house and put the house dishes in the next camper. It will be interesting what the boss does after I get this one rebuilt. Right now she say paper plates and towels, nothing she has to wash except pie irons. AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT MOMMA SAYS GOES.

Oh I'm not going to eat off my dinner ware. That's just for the rallies. LOL... Paper plates, plastic silverware and paper towels are what you use for vacationing. Leaves more time for vacationing.

Does having the same dinnerware I've had for 20 years count? I hate paper plates.

Are you kidding?! I'm pretty sure this is the main reason my wife wanted this camper...so she could shop for vintage stuff. She found most of it on eBay. We have all kinds of Melmac (per-Correlle), spaghetti glasses, mid century modern silverware, teapot, etc. I think she is having a lot of fun shopping for such bargains. Our camper came with some cool vintage stuff, but she has already topped that with cooler stuff. If we ever decide that we can part with some of it, I'll post it here.

That won't happen until both of you are in the ground and your kids sell it off. So make sure they have this Site URL...

Cool. I have my eye on a "bachelor's toaster" from way back when. It only makes one slice of toast at a time. Does the whole pop up thing but has only one slot. I already have an AM radio from the 50s that matches my appliances perfect. This thing works and has tubes in it. Remember those? My dad was an engineer, got his schooling in Sweden in the 1930s. His three girls grew up on electronics and the space program. One of our favorite things was to head to "Net Electronics" on a Saturday morning and help him use the tube tester. We loved watching the good tubes light up and the duds just sit there. He probably could have done the same thing at home, but we were so fascinated by that big boxy thing with all the lights. And the bins of tubes, connectors, wires, etc. It was heaven on earth! As far as a radio in Hamlet... we don't listen to much but NPR anyway, and it didn't hit the scene until the mid 70s. It's also one more thing to carry, so we don't. We DO have one tip o'the hat to vintage radio, though, although we use an I-Mac to access it... We have loved old radio shows for many years. We don't often let even one evening go by without listening to Have Gun, Will Travel, X Minus One, Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, or Philip Marlowe, or sometimes a comedy. Good stuff. It just fits, on a chilly, rainy evening, to be sitting at the table playing cards, sipping cocoa and listening to an old show in the warm lantern light on the birch. AAAAH!
