I did not redo my 65 Shasta to original. Here is a few ideas that I think turned out well. -I reconfigured my interior: Full time queen bed in the back. I did not want to put my bed up and down. - Shifted kitchen toward the front. - I no longer have the original "booth" sitting area. It is L-shaped and can be made to a small bed - I used pallet wood and rusted metal for the roof. - I used old barn wood for the cabinet fronts with red metal inserts/panels. - I permanently mounted a solar panel to the top of the trailer with two batteries and can go anywhere for extended times without power. - And much more. Point is you can do whatever you want and make it yours. Enjoy the process and make it for you and no one else. By the way there are other avenues to working in the medical field. Look into PA school or better yet nurse practitioner school. . I am an NP and work independently.

Sounds to me like you've got Grit Ann Marie, so this little bit of trailer work is going to do nothing but help in your goal to get where you want. Two thumbs up from here.

Hi Ann Marie,
My camper is a a lonely only (haven't found another Vannbrook) and the interior was hideous. It was so gross I painted it the first year, just so I could use it. I used plywood to make new doors and table, bought knobs on sale at lowes. Curtains are made from drop cloths, counter is from clearance at lowes, birch is inexpensive "shop" plywood (I hid bad spots behind cabinets), lighting is from ikea, floor is sale vinyl from home depot. I did buy a dorm fridge and new foam to make cushions. Ikea is a good source of small hanging shelves etc. I get lots of compliments on how cute she is and most people think she is restored to her original state, but she is actually better. Fake paneling and white vinyl ceiling =gone.
I think you can see the interior a bit in my profile picture Have fun!

A basic, subject-of-course-to-modification rule might be: reuse everything made of metal or that took a factory to produce.

After seeing your 'other' work dulcimerbob, you've taken "hack" to a higher level. Very Nice.

Vintage Camper Hacks…….tricks for repurposing…….rebuild my camper using salvaged materials…….Ideas? Advice? PW: You're becoming a trailer subversive and quickly getting the hang of all this . Love it! Your trailer is your friend; you take care of it, it takes care of you. I found most of my lights and most of the interior hardware (hooks, etc.) on ebay or etsy. The best find were these two small ceramic sconces. They were the type you might see around a mirror in a bathroom in the 50's. It's on the right in the attached picture. I now have a half shade with whipstitch to filter the bulb. I've also replaced the two lamp globes (over the sink and dining table) with much more appropriate vintage style ones from True Value hardware for only a few dollars a piece.

chametzoo Going to divert the topic a bit to say your photos are exactly what I was looking for... Light walls and dark cabinets. We are wrestling with the same issue right now and yours looks great. 1965fieldandstream.blogspot.com

chametzoo Going to divert the topic a bit to say your photos are exactly what I was looking for... Light walls and dark cabinets. We are wrestling with the same issue right now and yours looks great. 1965fieldandstream.blogspot.com Excuse us hijacking your thread PW…. Dan… The end result was an accident of sorts. You're looking at a combination of new finish on the walls and ceilings next to 55 year old cabinets that were re-used and with original shellac. No refinishing on those whatsoever. The new walls/ceilings were finished with a clear oil-modified water based polyurethane. That's why you have that contrast. This was a professional rebuild and the poly finish was their basic finish… the more painstaking authentic shellac and matching effort would have cost too much. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but I am getting used to it and may leave it as is. The lighter finished birch sets off the amber cabinets. This is also why I chose a near black Marmoleum floor… it makes all the wood really 'pop'. The new built ins in the bunk area are mostly made of solid pine, and that poly'd much warmer than the birch veneer plywood. Looked at your blog… you're trailer is going to end up looking superb! Somehow, superb makes it more fun to use
