Hello, I'm a newbie.. looking for anyone with any information/links for 1966? Aristocrat Land Commander trailers. (One of the threads on this site had a 1966 aristocrat Lo-Liner with turquoise appliances like ours.)
My daughter and I started work on our old trailer that we have had for about 16 years. When we bought it we basically just did cosmetic repairs to the interior and exterior... now the water damage is VERY evident and after youtubing and googling we decided to remove some of the skin and try to repair the corners that were the worst.
It has now snowballed. We have removed the entire skin because the rot was so extensive. We are attempting to repair from the floor up. But our dilemma is after having removed the skin, we have very little to hold everything together and as we try to figure out how to repair, we feel like everything will topple down on us.
Anyway.... i am trying to educate myself and looking ahead to find parts we will need etc... (The oven doesn't work and we are missing one of the outside storage compartment doors and the back storage door will need to be replaced or refitted...)
Below is a link to the photos... any info, experience, etc. will be much appreciated.
Thanks, Coleen

Hey... I'm sorry if I repeat myself as I am new to this and I think you replied while i was editing my original post.... I was adding to my post: It has now snowballed. We have removed the entire skin because the rot was so extensive. We are attempting to repair from the floor up. But our dilemma is after having removed the skin, we have very little to hold everything together and as we try to figure out how to repair, we feel like everything will topple down on us. Today, I've spent considerable time reading different threads and looking at pictures... After all is said and done, I am considering taking the trailer down to the frame. But I am worried about fitting the skin back on. One of the sites I looked at suggested using the skin as a template to build the frame (they were rebuilding the sides).. would that be the right thing to do? Otherwise we are considering leaving the base (the subfloor layer next to the metal frame) as is, with some repairs. Then we would cut out the rotted edges of the floor, repair any rotted beams under the floor and replace floor so we can then replace the side beams etc. Does that make sense to you? I'm sure that nothing I'm saying is new to those of you with experience. I'm finding that many of threads sound like mine. Sorry you weren't able to see the pics.. I think I figured it out.. link to trailer pics

The skin is normally used to rebuild the framing, yes. It may have to be tacked in place more than once to keep the trailer shape. Once you get the floor sound, the rest kind of falls into place. The learning curve can be unpleasant, but don't give up. Ask questions. We are all here for you.

After seeing your pics, I think frame off is the way to go,if you have the room and space to work. I wish I had been able to do so on my 56 shasta rebuild. You will never have to wonder what is lurking in an area of the trailer you didn't get to. VikX our fearless leader has restored a couple of these....so you are in good hands. I think there is also an aristocrat yahoo group groups.yahoo.com/group/AristocratTrailers/ that may be helpful. Welcome to the forum and good luck! Please post your progress pics....individually rather than the album...create a thread here if you can....we have mostly shasta threads so it would be great to see yours on here.

Hey... so in response to queries... we are sure it is a land commander because it has the decals... we are just not sure what year... pretty sure it's close to a 1967... husband says it is a single axle.
Wasn't sure what was meant by posting individual pictures and not putting pictures into albums?? I thought we weren't supposed to put pictures on this site...? Is it ok to do what "flyingham" did with the thread called "The Disasta, revisited. 1962 Shasta SC16"
Last question... either read or watched a youtube video where someone was talking about polishing the aluminum trim around windows even the rain gutters. Mag cleaner was suggested with steel wool (I think) but I can't find where I saw that. Anyone remember where that was mentioned? Or what you use to make it shiny?
Thanks guys... I can't tell you how much I appreciate your feedback!!! Coleen

To get pics to show up here, you need to open them one at a time on your pic host and copy their individual "IMG" codes, one at a time, from there to here. At least that's how it works with Photobucket. Dunno 'bout Shutterfly, but I suspect it works in a similar fashion.
