I know VTS and others sell the notched cylinder replacement for the L66. Unfortunately I have one L66 that has the round lock.
Has anybody used a locksmith to rekey one of these? A replacement cylinder used on ebay is almost $80. Ouch!
I have one L66 with the notched cylinder that I bought from TrailerTrasher (thanks) but I'm saving it for the next camper.

I thought this was the "next camper"..... The one I'm working on I bought on my way back from Maine with this one. Funny, I looked for a year and found nothing then bought two in a week. The 55-62 vintage pickings are getting thin so I'm glad I bought both.

Is the 1500 from AR the one with the round cylinder?
Anyway, on a serious note, I would be interested to find out how you make out if you use a locksmith to re-key the current lock. I would think, from what I have seen and the little that I know about the locks, that re-keying should be a pretty simple proposition.
I have replaced one of the round cylinders before, and there are a couple little tricks to changing them, but they are simple to work with. Somewhere along the lines I have accumulated two of the lock cylinders with no keys. I may take them both in to get keys for future projects, depending on how much of a process it really is. Finding replacements is not always easy, and anyone that has anything at all made by Bargman these days thinks they have the hottest thing since buttered popcorn and wants a FORTUNE for it... even things that were throw-away parts a few short years ago.

Yes, the 1500 is from Alabama. You have a good memory. I thought it would end up a parts camper but it was savable. As with all my projects, I am overdoing the repairs. I thought I might be the member who breaks that magical $2 an hour on labor...but not the way I'm going.
We will keep the Airflyte & Forester for now. At least until I find the "next" one. The way the market for restoration candidates is going, the next one may never come. There has been a lot of high dollar trash for sale lately.
Any tips on getting the round cylinder out? It looks like there is a round brass retaining clip?
I'll let you know how the rekey works out.

First, arm yourself. (And be careful about that pesky part # 13...) Next, take clear photos so that you can remember the relative positions of the parts as you put it all back together. The tabs are what moves the lock lever into the locked or unlocked position. The retainer is actually spring-loaded and depresses in, toward the center of the cylinder. It does not pry off. Depressing it allows it to slide out from the bore in the lock housing. I am not sure you have to remove it to have it re-keyed, but it is simple enough to do and maybe save a couple locksmithing bucks.

Thanks.
I wonder if you can remove the locking tabs and pop out the cylinder without taking it apart?

If you need help with your Bargman L-66 or other Bargman locks like the L-77, L-55, L-100, L-200, L-300 or L-400 I can help you. I have parts and new or used locks. I have a good stock right now. I also have the OEM Rebuild kits for most models as well. I can also provide you with a pdf of most models. Rick r_whiten@hotmail.com

Update:
I learned something about locksmiths. NEVER mention it's a vintage lock over the phone. The knee-jerk answer is "Go away!"
I removed the cylinder then took it to them and just said it's from a camper lock. "No problem!"
$15 and around $2 a key and it seems to work fine.

OMG - guys are saints! This is so helpful...and yes, I'll avoid the words "vintage lock" when my locksmith calls back. I'll print off the schematic and tell him of this tutorial. Are there places to find replacement latches, too, as mine came broke. AND I have no key...just a pretty handle in great shape that won't work. Any suggestions? There is only 1 locksmith in town.

HELLO - Call this guy. I have the newer model L66 round lock, too (no square on the outside lock-that's the older style). He's out east and will fix your L66 and mail it back you.
