This past weekend was our first trip in the Shasta and likely the trailers first camping trip in 15 years. The trip was meant to be a shake out prior to a longer trip to New Brunswick in a couple of weeks. The Good: Overall it was a nice weekend. We had some cool dry Canadian air in place and the rain had moved on. In my book the weather was a ten. The bad: we hope to get into our favorite Nation forest site in NH (Russell Pond), upon our arrival the last site had just been taken so we had to backtrack about an hour and on some badly pitted roads. In the end we found a site at a National Forest site in Campton, NH. The Ugly: Either on the way to Russell pond or the way back down one of the bumps in the road snapped one of the brackets that hold the leaf springs in place. This caused the rear of the trailer to drop 4” on the street side. I decided I could get it home (about 100 miles) as long as I took it easy. We made it back safe and the Shasta is going to the trailer shop this week to fix the problem and beef up the other components. Overall it was a nice trip…everything else in the trailer worked well. Looking forward to Canada in a couple of weeks. This is as close as I get to glamping. The far shackle is what this should look like.

Looks like you found a sweet site for your first night out. Pup's face says "only a shackle to tackle, and I'm in squirel heaven... what's the problem?" Here's hoping for many trouble free miles ahead, once your rig gets outta rehab for the knee surgery

Thanks guys, the trailer is back, fixed, and ready for the next trip...next up, 1500 mile round trip to northern NB Canada. I will post pics of that one, such a beautiful place, I already reserved a site right on the water of the Bay of Chaleur. As far as Ugly goes, all turned out well, we made it home.
Regards

Sweet looking trailer. Did it always have a wooden screen door? Love that.
Did the trailer shop inspect the curb site leaf spring hanger? Hope it is still solid.

BT, I built the screen door (in addition to the whole trailer), lol...though it would look nicer than the aluminum one. I had all the other welds inspected...everything look good at this point. I hope so, I have 1500 mile trip coming up. My plan is to replace the axe, springs, hanging hardware and brakes over the winter...should have done that first.

Love the photos. The dog seems perfectly content. Glad you made it back all the way.
