I've looked all over the tongue and can't find the VIN anywhere. I've done some sanding with wire brush, still no luck.
At at this point I'm tempted to just get a new VIN stamped by Washington state patrol, but I need to know what year this trailer is so that the bill of sale is correctly worded. Any help would be awesome.
Model is 16STD and serial # is F595.

No Trotwood specific knowledge here, but your Serial# is the VIN# F595 . 4 number vins were no uncommon then. it may have also been inclusive of the Model# so: 16STDF595
As best I can tell from the Avatar it is a mid sixties trailer and so,I would decipher it as follows:
16' STD: Standard F 1966 595th unit made.
Totally a theory on the F being 1966. thinking that "A" would have represented the first year of the decade at 1960, "B" 1961 etc. Seems like it would not represent a model as we already have that.
Perhaps some other Trotwood owners can check that theory..
As far as were to find it on the trailer. If not on the rails near the tongue then you may find a sticker inside a cabinet, or it may be stamped into the emblem if there is one.
In the mean time you can load us up some more pics and someone may recognize it..
Good luck!

Thank you so much for the response! I joined a Trotwood yahoo group and mined all the responses over the years-and saw the same info, that the vin is the serial. Awesome. Back to the DMV today to start the process of getting registration. The good news is that the tongue needed to be sanded anyway

Hey trailer thrasher: you were right! The DMV had my trailer on file and it's a 1966. The vin was simply F595.
Now fingers crossed that the last titled owner will release title to me....
