Hello. I’m in the process of prepping our 1958 Shasta trailer for a road trip up the coast. I’d like to install a new awning. A previous owner hacked up the original awning track, installing a straight track over the door the full length of the trailer. As long as it's non original AND trashed, I am seriously considering installing "modern" roll-up awning which will hide the eyesore. I've measured and the hardware will allow all the original window drip covers to remain with the new uprights attaching the bottom of the trailer’s side. I would mask and paint the uprights to identically match the trailer's graphics when in stowed position.
Is this approach acceptable? It sure would make it much easier to deploy and stow, especially for us "older" folks... Has anyone gone down this road before?
Any ideas, suggestions or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Paul

I saw one on Tin Can Tourist page that looked really nice. They had put up the side walls for enclosing the awning.

There are two questions to ask yourself. 1 do you want your trailer all original (replace the original trim). and 2 are there enough places to attach the new awning to vertical suports and not just screwed into the siding. If yours has the full sheet under siding you should be ok.
