Swirly,
Did you use a single flare or a double flare when you made your lines?

Any type cover will work. Just some insulation wrapped around the regulator and maybe a vinyl pouch... Also depends on how cold it really gets. Most are OK in the low 20s and above. That's the temps we have here and I've not had a problem. Hey Vikx, So does sub freezing cold effect the regulator? In Joshua Tree National Park a few hears ago when camping in late November, I had issues lighting the heater in my pop up trailer and temps had dropped to the high 20s. I always thought it was the thermostat. Since then, the regulator was replaced last Fall. At the time of in Joshua tree, the regulator was over 30 years old. How often do regulators need to be replaced? Thanks Rod

Freezing cold does affect the regulator, thus a little insulation and the pouch. It doesn't need much, just keep the bitter cold at bay.
Regulators last for years. They should be checked/tested once a year for leaks and pressure. (11" WC)
Bpmcgee: My gas lines have a single flare and work well. Not sure on Swirly's.
