Nice caps. Usually they don't weather that well over the decades. Even a little rusty they are in better shape than one should expect.

These were acid washed with a wheel cleaner that has two types of acid.
What acid wash did you use? Two were recommended to me but they're hard to find. NC....I ordered Eagle One Aluminum Wheel Cleaner online from Amazon. I DID also order oxalic acid as well from Amazon, but have only used Eagle One thus far. It worked well and I might forgo the oxalic acid.

Work was kind enough to let us go early today in lieu of the holiday. Spent the remainder of the afternoon and evening acid washing a large amount of trim. Then using the steel wool and Murphy's Oil soap. Stopped and picked up a polishing wheel and a buffing wheel. Also purchased some polish. I am leaving all the interior aluminum with a mill finish. Same with the j rail. I did polish the window above the bunk that I "cleaned" and posted yesterday. Really pleased with how the wheels/polish make a huge difference. Tomorrow I hope to apply some carnauba wax on the polished pieces and possibly start cleaning the j rail. Before: After: Before: After: Have a good evening!

Also, realized that the only brow I have is for above the door. Guess I will be placing an order with VTS to cover all of the windows as well.

This is exactly what I needed to see. I'll be following this thread, and also following behind you in work as well...looks like you have a good head start on me, and I work slow enough that I won't be passing you. lol My '66 Shasta thread

Larry, I know but I really like the look of the bigger polished brows above. Of course I have concern of adding more screw holes though. I'm really torn, but still have some time to decide.
Update....The last two evenings were spent acid washing the remaining windows and hitting them with steel wool and Murphy's Oil. Going to start buffing and polishing tonight. Will post pics when complete.

Well, I failed to get the windows buffed/polished. Got everything set up in the basement and turned on the grinder/buffer. Poof...sparks and smoke. Mind you, the grinder was old and was left behind when we bought our house 7 years ago. It got plenty of use since then, but it died a miserable death this evening. So, my evening was spent venturing to Harbor Freight for a new bench buffer with 2 wheels. Guess try again tomorrow. Have a good evening!

Larry, that is a really nice grinder/buffer. Not sure that I want to spend that much though. My wife might not be very happy. Though throughout this project she HAS let me up my tool supply. Honestly though, I am NOT happy with the buffer from HF. I usually find their tools great for the price. Debating on taking the HF buffer back. Not sure yet.

As I have stated previously, wiring/electrical is NOT my thing. My dad came over this afternoon (50 degrees here in NE Ohio today) and we wired the tow lights/harness finally. Happy that part of the electric is done. I am hoping to build the fridge cabinet tomorrow, but not sure yet. Have a good evening all!

Honestly though, I am NOT happy with the buffer from HF. I usually find their tools great for the price. Debating on taking the HF buffer back. Not sure yet. I looked at the HF ones. They are smaller and probably get the job done. But as I said I do this a lot so I needed the Big Bertha model. I also like the large amount of room I get around the 10 inch wheels. The shaft is way out from the motor so it makes it easy to polish just about anything at any angle. Push Out Windows are the really toughies. If not done right the buffer can rip that window right out of your hands and send it across the street in a mangled up mess. I have videos showing me using this type of buffer the proper way so that doesn't happen.

Built the face frame for the sink cabinet this evening. Decided to do away with the furnace under the oven for more storage. Can always use an electric one if need be. Hoping to build the cabinet itself tomorrow, but things never go as planned. I think everyone can relate. Lol Have a good evening!
