My esteemed vintage trailer talkers, Can somebody explain how this works? I think it is used to keep the exterior door open and is a door stop... But I am not sure how or what is missing. Door stopper www.flickr.com/photos/53209346@N00/9443618993/(Sorry, I thought I had posting the pics down in the thread, but it isn't working for me at the moment.)

Ok..thanks. Appears Mine is broken. Which explains why it sucks at keeping the door open... HA! btw... It also sucks the pics don't seem to be working on the other board very well or like they used too. It looked like a great thread and now I know what to look for... WANTED.... Original "door catch" for 50's Shasta. And a ton of other things Cheers!

I have a 57 Bellwood and it has the same kind of door catch, so maybe they were more widely used on the 50's trailers (and therefore not hard to find a replacement).

Resurrecting an old post... Is the door latch supposed to hold the handle, or is there some other way this is supposed to work? Is there supposed to be some protective coating so the handle doesn't get scratched up? IMG_2412 by Charles Bechtel, on Flickr IMG_2410 by Charles Bechtel, on Flickr

There is supposed to be a little rubber stopper in the end of the catch. The door handle does slip behind the pointed area. They work well but are often broken or missing...

Hi Friends,
I never realized there was supposed to be a rubber stopper in the end. Good to know. Does anyone make these or do we just cobble at the hardware store, LOL?
Thanks,
Rod

Thanks, Rod I carved one out of white rubber and epoxied it on. It probably wont last but what they heck. Cork covered with polyurethane may work too.

Vintage trailer rebuilding is all about "making it work" with supplies you have on hand. You can easily find a stopper of some sort at a local hardware store. Take the fitting with you to find an exact size match. I make mine as well, a little bit of trimming and there you go...
