Oh my gosh, thinking of towing with a Mac or Peterbuilt....I didn't realize they were so affordable, now I need my semi driving license! I'm not going for this trailer anymore, we can't afford to upgrade our tow vehicle yet. It was a wonderful dream... but oh, the fear of the unknown that strikes me numb. I am most definately going to consider something like this in the future, but I am sticking to under 22' or under 4 thousand pounds for my two vehicle for now. Maybe ten years from now I can upgrade to a diesel monster and get a large camper with a free standing oven and lots of charm.

I recently bought a 1955 Terra Cruiser, 35 feet with 32 foot box. Towed with the original tires, after getting them checked, and greasing the bearings. It has 15 inch rims. I own a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500. It towed great. Barely made the back of the truck squat. With new rims and tires I would pull that trailer anywhere with my truck.
I would agree that that trailer is at a minimum 30 feet.
Just my 2 cents.

What do I know? I know you passed on this baby, but I still wanted to share my thoughts if you pursue something in that length range but smaller.
I don't have any experience towing any long trailers. I have only ever towed nothing longer than 17 feet. If you want to go camping to places and the national parks, you need something smaller. Try going to some mountain areas with that beast. Got winding roads? When you get trailers that are this long, (I think)you will have trouble finding spots to camp in. A lot of campgrounds, IMHO, don't have that much space for the long trailers. If they have something that long, it's few and far between. You improve your chances at finding camping spots especially if you have to make reservations with something shorter.
The big parks get crowded and the road systems can often be clogged. Navigating with a behemoth seems like a stressfull situation. You are already camping with your kids, shoot, that's enough in itself, LOL. However, I would go after something shorter to improve your general camping experience and it will give you more flexibility and a better trip, overall.
Again, just my opinion.
For parking it on a plateau in Montana, sign me up!

Yes, you are right, camping with kids is already complicated and stressful. Not to mention my husband and I wouod kill eachother over parking something that big on a regular basis. I didnt even think of it until now, but the road to where we keep our trailer would be difficult with a trailer like that. I think we can make it with a well laid out interior with something from the 70s around 19' now that I have been looking around. But where to find it? No idea, searching is so hard and it doesn't help like other posters have pointed out, people list stuff with terrible pictures, too few pictures or NO PICTURES! I mean, why list anything without a picture? So the hunt goes on...

Be aware that 70s units have a lot of MDF and are much heavier than they appear. Also, any water damage turns MDF into powdery sawdust.
Since you are willing to go newer, I would not limit the search to 70s. There may be a really nice 90s trailer out there that someone just wants to get rid of...

I know what you mean about mdf, that's an issue for me. It's like they boast about manufacturing with an aluminum frame and then add all this )bulk and low quality cabinetry. Are they all mdf or just some/most?
