I'm starting to think a new skin will be the best option but am having trouble finding a source. I found LEN’S TRAILER SIDING TUTORIAL but have a feeling that won't work for the roof. A seam ever 2 feet just sounds like it is inviting trouble.
The largest sheets of White Aluminum I've found are 48 inches wide and .040 thickness. It would take 5 to make the skin with 4 seams and cost about $575 shipped. I'm not sure what kind of aluminum would be best and if it is possible to get it in a larger sheet to avoid seems. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Jennifer

Thanks! Last night I found what the "old board" is. Any other newbies visit: Vintage Shasta Board There is a ton of info and sources. Sad to see it is closed but thankful to all who have made the move.

I just got a roof skin from Steve at Hemet. 16' long X 8 feet wide, almost $600 shipped across country to my house included. It can be seen being installed here; vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/479/compact-bring-boil-reduce-simmer?page=2Steve is good people. Reception office ther is the tough sell though. Once past her and on to Steve, then it's all good. Have been very happy with him and his product so far. Still haven't completely finished install yet. Still working on back wall frame work and the new roof section wraps on around down the back wall too!

My local sheet metal fabricator directed me to a local truck supply vendor who sells 0.040 aluminum by the foot from a roll. It comes in a width of 105". I bought 11 feet (for a new one piece roof) for $116, then the fabricator squared it up, put some breakers in, and hemmed the leading edges for another $25. The only limit is the length of the break, often 12'.

I have to tell you that Hemet Valley was outstanding to work with. I ordered a new roof skin for a 64 1500. It came as a four piece with Pittsburgh lock seams on each end. and the top seams were perfect. Unfortunately the cost of shipping to Illinois was more than the product. and then I did the major error and ordered my inside dimension instead of the outside and have a piece to work with 2 1/2 inches too narrow. Live and learn. Not their fault. The product was outstanding quality and service cannot be beat. Looking for roof skin 78" wide, Let me know.

I concur with Hemet Valley...great people to work with and my 6" break siding came out great. Crating and shipping made the total cost a bit more than I hoped but I found what they charged was less than their competitors. Overall, great vendor.

Oh dang ttoldcarbuff. I feel really bad for you. I hope you can find someone who can use it. I would be advertising it on every forum I could find. Even in Craigs List. Good luck on that. There are smaller trailers out there in need of new roofing.

Steve told me the largest he could get was 4" lines when I was trying to order 5". 4" showed up when shipped, and that was the largest Steve said they could produce. I just got mine about 2 weeks ago.

Soup,
They have a 14' hand break so they can do large panels by hand. I had all my panels done by them back in April. Maybe he had problems doing the hand work.

For those of you in the Southeast. Check with Rick Hawkins Cabinets. He is just outside of Atlanta. He is also on Facebook. He recently posted that he has 1/8" birch also!
