I have two industrial singer sewing machines that I use from time to time. One is a model 111w155 and a 156. Problem being is I think they each need a tune up. Is that something I can tackle with some instruction, or something I need to have a proffesional deal with? Im pretty handy with machinery but I have never dived into a sewing machine. Any advise or direction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I took one apart and rewired it. Unfortunately for me, it needed to be "re-timed" according to the repair shop. Still working after the tune up.
Check into industrial machines; I'll bet there's info online. They tend to be a little more user friendly.

Sewing machine repair here is CRAZY expensive. I've done some repair on my machines myself, too, after I spent for $40 for a repairman to super glue a thread spindle back in place on one machine that had broken. Yes, *I* could have done that.

Right, I just wonder what is really involved in a tune up? I mean could it really be that hard?

I think cleaning it, getting lint an thread out is a big part. And that bobbin mechanism sometimes needs adjusting. I ended up ordering a new casing for one of my bobbins. I know my mom always kept Singer machine oil. The old machines had certain places where you were supposed to put a drop of oil as routine maintenance. I think I even remember asking her what a tiny hole was far and she said oil. That was the old days.

They sure get the job done on canvas and heavyer materials though. The only reason I keep them around. loll
