There are three Kreg Jig kits at my home depot ranging in price from $55.00-$180 Which one do I need for making my cupboards, and framing? I don't mind spending a bit more to make it easier, but I don't want to waster money on stuff I won't use... Here they are from cheapest to priciest.. #1- $55.00 #2.- $125.00 #3 -$180

I like the junior kit as it allows me to clamp it in place or hold it with a screw while drilling. The other two kits are great for scratch building but not as good for repair work. Before I get killed for the above statements they are just my opinion.

If I remember right my jr kit at Lowes was 35 or 40 bucks, of course that was just before Noah built the Ark.

Quick Kregstion...are the Kreg screws the best to use or are there others at the big boxes or elsewhere that will do the job?

stanley ; I know the big box stores DO sell pocket hole screws. That said, I've not yet tried them and would be interested to know if anyone else has.

Thank you everyone for your input! I was just on my way to Lowes to see if I could talk myself into the purchasing one of the bigger models but I think I'll start with the Jr and go from there. I have camper and home projects that need this tool.

I use the small one and has worked great, I bought it for less than $55 at Home Depot.

I've had all the kits including the semi professional model not shown here. the first kit allows you to take the jig to the work piece thus giving more flexibility. large work pieces is where this unit shines. while the master allows you to take the work piece to the jig. the master will be faster and require less muscle to use. if you plan on doing a lot of holes on your project and some down the road, get the master. you can always pickup the "rocket", a single hole jig for $20, which gives mobility when you absolutely need it.

I have the Jr. And have drilled hundreds of with it. If you drop it in on a had surface, the adjustable tabs on the sides will break pretty easily....ask me how I know.
I like the full size version with the built in clap, just can't get past having to stand long boards up vertically in it to drill the holes, I don't know, maybe it's just me? I will stick with the the Jr for now.

I have the Harbor Freight and it's very well made. Only problem is it's not easy to use without the clamp...it works, just not as easy as a kreg

I have the third one and it was the most important tool I had during my build other than saws, but I was doing a complete new build. There are over 2000 kreg screws in my camper!
The kreg clamp is really nice to have and works wonderful to hold the jig to the table while you're working. Also the vacuum port is great when doing lots of holes, as the holes always plug up without it.
If you're just doing repair work, like others have said, maybe the first one will be a good choice, however I haven't used it, so can't really comment.
