Can anyone tell me the size of the nails used to hold the aluminum sheeting to the ply? I can see that it is 1" long but can someone tell me the approximate size of the shank?
Are these still available?
Thanks for any input

I've used #17 7/8 stainless to tack the skin. However, most of us use an air stapler.

I've used #17 7/8 stainless to tack the skin. However, most of us use an air stapler. Yep. 17 Gauge x 7/8 inch nails can be found at the end of the isle of screws in little clear packages hanging on the rack at about eye level at Home Depot. They are stainless steel nails. I just bought some for another use so I know right where they are LOL. But as Vikx said, most of us use staples with an air gun. I got my air guns at Harbor Freight for $23 each. I use 3/4 inch x 1/4 inch crown staples for the fold over on the aluminum. The same gun will shoot brads also. If you buy one of these guns, practice a bit on some scrap wood and metal. Use 100 pounds of pressure for 3/4 inch x 1/4 inch crown staples. For some reason half inch staples will jam once in a while. But then again the gun is not made for half inch. They are made for 5/8 inch and up. However you can't find 5/8 inch staples LOL... go figure.

Yeah I am with these guys.. go ahead and break down and get you a pancake compressor and hit Harbor Freight for the stapler. I got the $20 gun too and I use it for a little bit of everything, but it's a must for trailer repair and renovations. I want a big compressor but have not been able to find one thats in my price range. Good ones are expensive and are not that available 2nd hand.
