I am getting ready to repack the wheel bearings on my 1954 Little Ceaser (small cannd ham) and will need to change the wheel bearings seals. It has no brakes just Hadco hubs with a wide 5 early ford bolt pattern. Does anyone know a part number and or source for the wheel bearing seals?
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
I just went through this with the Hadco axle my 65 Aloha. I spent a couple hours checking every reference I could find without any luck. Ended up measuring the outside diameter of old seal and the outside diameter of the spindle shaft where the seal mounts and found a perfect fit on e-trailer.com. The seal that fit mine was a double seal, so I am good to go if I ever want to use bearing buddies.
Nice thing about these old parts is they were manufactured using SAE imperial standards, so instead of having to measure thousandths of an inch, they are fractional. You don't need a super accurate measuring caliper.
Good luck with the project.
Oh..........where are the pictures?

They are the perfect product to blow out your grease seals, and fill the brake and drum areas with grease.
The only valid place for Bearing Buddies, is on boat and jet ski trailers that are backed into the cold water, with hot brakes and hubs. The "full pack" of grease helps keep the water away from the bearings in this application.
As you pointed out, bearing seals are very standard. Sometimes the stamped parts numbers are "too old" for an interchange manual and you need to actually measure and go to the book. NEVER.......try to get this help at a Big Box auto parts like O'Reilly, Auto Zone, ETC, if your trailer is not in their computer, the part does not exist. They do not even list parts for my 1957 Ford, that they have "in stock". Any Napa, or a Real auto parts store will have no problem finding the correct seals to fit your application.

Dave, Here is the link to the seal that fit my axle. www.etrailer.com/Seals-for-Trailer-Bearings/Dexter/168255TB.htmlMine measured 1-11/16" inside and 2-9/16" outside. Using a decimal equivalent chart this seal was almost an exact match and fits perfectly. John, surely you are not suggesting that boaters find it acceptable for Bearing Buddies to blow their grease seals? Knucklehead recreational boaters maybe, those guys probably wouldn't even notice, but certainly not most fisherman who are as picky as anyone when it comes to their gear. Couldn't resist poking you in the ribs a bit. You can sleep better tonight knowing I will never consider them for my travel trailers.

My biggest problem with bearing buddies is people buy them and don't read and follow the directions. They see a grease fitting and think surely that needs a couple of squirts, so before long the seals blow and problems begin. As john said they are designed for trailers being submerged in water.

I biggest problem with bearing buddies is people buy them and don't read and follow the directions. My point exactly. The problem is people think they keep you from routine maintenance and inspection of their bearings, when all they are for is to equalize the internal pressure of the hub when a rapid temperature change occurs such as backing a trailer into a lake. They prevent water from being sucked into the bearings hopefully. The ones I really like is when someone drills a holes in the grease cap and thinks they can grease the bearings that way. Then they can't understand why they have bearing failure.

so I am good to go if I ever want to use bearing buddies. I should have said this differently, I can see why John responded as he did.

Greg, Sorry for being late to your post response. I'm out of town for a rally.
What I'm saying is that IMO, all Jet Ski and Ski boat owners are knuckleheads, that never even consider that something might be helpful in all those papers that they were given when they bought it new! That comes from a former service manager that had to deal with them every day. Man I'm glad to be retired!
I sleep good every night!

I can remember what it was like to go to the lake on a summer day and you could hear conversations being carried across the water with the occasional boat passing by. Not any more.
Since davek has vanished, I'm sure he won't mind the thread drift.

Thread drift is always welcome.
Sorry for my absence (very busy couple of weeks) I am back and back at the trailer build. Have tires ordered and will do the bearings and seals when I put them on.
Thanks for all the input.
Dave

Greg,
Did you record the number on the original grease seals before you swapped them out to the newer double seal? If so, what was it?
Cheers,
Rod

I did not record the part number of the grease seals I replaced on my trailer as a P.O. had installed the wrong size. I can find the part number of the e-trailer replacement seal I used if you like.

Hey Greg, Been busy with a lot of non trailer related things. Can't fit it in, as much as I would like. You posted the e trailer seal up on top in this thread, already. It's an older thread, so I can see how it's easy to forget. Done the same. I will be in touch, Rod
