Oh my heavens, I cannot tell you folks how desperately I needed this today. Thank you, thank you, thank you for wit and levity that came just in the nick of time!

So... what happened?
If it were me, I would have taken said "OK", but also made a comment about how worried I was about pulling the old beauty up that road. Then I would have taken some old, unrestored trailer of similar shape, slapped some Krylon on it so it was the same color as the Rainbow, thrown some old cushions and dishes and crap in it, and then dragged it up that road at 3 pm on Friday over every pothole at about 70 mph until it collapsed, and then pulled into their driveway dragging the wreckage behind you.

I took the big trailer up on friday. Hit the gravel road around 6pm. no logging trucks, and one guy slowed down for me going the other way. I met 5 others which didn't slow down. I went as slow as I could and my trailer (29ft tandem axle) got tossed around like small boat in rough seas. some years the road is better than other. This year is not. I told the in-law that there is no way I taking the little one up.
They also offered my trailer to his brother in-law for camping not to the New Zealand family for sleeping, that was the original plan. I'm pissed. I told him. NO Water NO Coooking and NO Toilet. They can use the fridge for 3 day only.
$100 insurance $75 Propane $200 Fuel (drop-off and Pick up) 32 hours of cleaning Painting the bumper and tongue and steps
Thanks for letting me vent

You put way too much work into your vintage trailer to let it be messed up by other people. Other people will not appreciate it anywhere near as much as you do. They didn't sweat and bleed in it like you did for so long. It's your pride and joy. Don't loan it to anyone, don't let anyone stay in it for even one night. I promise you will hate yourself in the morning.

I feel sorry for your big tandem axle Bagspipes! Agreed: LEAVE the little guy/gal home, safe and sound.

Usually the people who we have the most trouble saying no to, are the ones who appreciate our efforts the least... My husband and I own a vintage Glastron speed boat, two trailers and a lot of film equipment. We have learned that if you didn't pay for it yourself, you generally do not value it, or take care of it like an owner would. So the answer is "NO" to borrowing it. We sacrificed our money and time to get those items and they need to make the same sacrifice if they want one. We tell people that it would be better for them to rent something, because if in spite of their good intentions there was damage, it would be difficult in our relationship especially as the borrowers generally do not have money for repairs. We have had attempts at making us feel guilty and accusations of us being selfish, but I am fine with that. I am a very generous person in many ways, in fact we gave away our tent trailer to a young family with small children who was dreaming of owning one, but it was our choice and not a response to family demands. I suggest letting people know that this event was the last one that your trailer will be attending...

very good point. I know that I'm a generous person and I have no problem spending my time to help them. I traded a fiddle for a boat awhile back. My fiddle, french 1880's. Boat 1992 bayliner 22ft cuddycabin /w trailer. It sat outside for years and had lots of growth on it. The engine ( core) was new but apart and not in the boat. when I was done. It was beautiful, She ask to use it and I let her. I never drove it again. destroyed the leg, prop, drive shaft, shift linkage, and it took on water 6" a day. she never paid for the damage. sold the boat/trailer for $600 Live and learn. even if it is family
