My in-law's are hosting a wedding on their land. My big trailer will be going up there soon to house people for the week-end (sleeps 8) and I'm ok with that.
The road is an Active logging road with transport trucks going 60mph on a gravel road. They will not slow down for you. I will be on it for 30 Min. I have had my truck plastered with rocks before. I do it because sometimes you just have to. Please the family.
I do not want to bring the Rainbow up. Single axle, old outriggers, you know the deal. There are tons to deep potholes which will thrash that poor trailer around. Plus all the rocks that will hit it from idiots and trucks who won't slow down. then the dust floats down from the road where I park it.
What do you think? I'm I being unreasonable? Is this the time to put my foot down and say no?

No, you're not being unreasonable. You wouldn't take a beautiful vintage car up the road now would you? Or better yet, if your family had a treasured vintage automobile, would they take it up there? No. Our vintage trailers have our blood, sweat and tears in them and they are treasures, valuable, irreplaceable treasures, in our eyes and hearts.

You are RIGHT! Do not take the Rainbow. It's too precious.

If you do have to take it, move it at 3:00 a.m. When the road is empty

If you have the available funds, maybe you could consider renting, (with insurance) a motorhome that sleeps 8 and driving that up in the dead of night like Ladyw recommends. Doesn't have to be a fancy 2015 motorhome, find one that sleeps 8 at the back row of the rental area.

thanks for letting me vent. 3am is an option. The loggers do shut down in the evenings, and idiot camper take it over during to week-end. heading up on a Thursday evening and leaving on Monday night might work. Maybe the in-laws should of rented one. The gravel road is hit and miss. one week it is good (very few pot holes) and other weeks the big trailer gets tossed around.
I'll put it aside for the time being and make my decision after I take the big one up and have a look at the road. It pisses me off that they just expected me to bring it up.
thanks all

Well, you could "discover" a needy repair, such as a loose bolt or failing tire... or MICE in the bedding. Snicker.

OH BROTHER... IT'S JUST A CAMPER, SUCK IT UP AND HOOK THAT WAGON TO THE BUMPER.. I'TLL BE OVER BEFORE YOU KNOW IT! ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO SLEEP IN IT WILL PROBABLY BE CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS ANYWAY (LOL) THE BIG FOLK WILL STAY UP IN THE HOUSE.. JUST BE SURE AND GET ALL OF THE PENS, MARKERS AND CRAYONS OUT OF THE CAMPER AND OUT OF THEIR LITTLE PAWS.. OH AND ANOTHER THING, MAKE SURE THERE ARE NOT ANY HALF EMPTY SPRAY PAINTS AROUND.. SOMETIMES WHEN KIDS BORED THEY GET CREATIVE... GOOD LUCK AND POST LOTS OF PICS NEXT WEEK.. THERE'S NOTHING LIKE A SPRING WEDDING UP IN LOGGING COUNTRY.

Pathfinder.. you're so funny! Vikx had a really good suggestion. Just be honest and say it's too much of a risk to take a vintage trailer up that road. Better safe than sorry. Imagine the regret you'll feel if something happens to it.

Imagine the regret you'll feel if something happens to it. I know it was bad... but I could not resist. It is a beautiful camper he has there.. It's nice, simple and very squared away. I would use the "I'm sorry, even though it's been restored it really not that safe.." excuse... Or the rat thing, perhaps a gas leak.. or even better the breaker keeps flippin' I'm scared it'll catch fire.. Or like you said.. look at them and chuckle.. are you nuts? I'm not bringing that camper up that road! You can have the bunkhouse but not the rainbow.. they'd probably chuckle with him and say ok we understand..

Pathfinder, your funny but true. I saw tons of tiny scratches on the back fender of my car and I ask him what were you doing? He replied "taking the mud off" and I said "With what?" he said "A Rock" I didn't get mad, I just asked him not to use a rock again. I him mind he was helping me.
I'll do some posts the wedding is next month.

I don't see why not. Heck, give me the directions and I'll drive big red up and visit............ NOT . This is about the worst terrain as my old Chevy sees, LOL. I know once I finally finish a trailer, I'll actually be taking it camping and will probably have to drive on dusty gravel roads (gulp) go get to where we're gonna camp, but, I'll be cautious where I pull it and it won't be on an active logging road if I can avoid it. Gravel pings on a nicely painted trailer are the things nightmares are made of
