Back again with another conundrum: Culprit is a 71 Red Dale compact style trailer. Much rot, a druggie wagon and a very iffy body to frame connection. The wall studs were stapled to the bottom one by sills. It appears that the body was attached to the frame with ONE BYS and a few carriage bolts. Here, you can see the rotted one by two in the front. A carriage bolt is visible. Don't know if you can tell much, but the floor had marks where the one bys were. Here is the original frame with a single runner in the middle. And my remedy. Floor and subfloor securely bolted: QUESTION: HOW TO ATTACH THE BODY TO THE FRAME SECURELY? Here, you can see the new one by four at the front, no bolts yet: And a another view: My thoughts: 1. Use large sturdy angle brackets and re-enforced wall studs. Bolt thru frame boards. 2. Place two bys between the studs after bolting the one bys thru the outriggers and frame boards. Anchor wall studs securely. 3. The body just isn't anchored to the frame. Of course the inside cabinetry does provide some strength, but not enough, IMO. That would be two rear bench dinettes, a potty closet at LF and a closet just back of the door on the right. So HELP, my guru friends. Any and all suggestions welcome.

I seem to be missing something here...? Why not bolt through the 1x4 into the frame? Is it too hard to drill holes? I have no idea how mine is attached, I'm halfway through the disassembly, but busy moving this month so I won't get it down to the frame till mid summer. I will be following this with interest as I will need to reattach mine.

Thanks LadyW. Yes, the one bys are/will be bolted thru the frame. It's attaching the wall studs and upper body securely that I'm worried about. This trailer cabin seems like it wants to take FLIGHT...

Great pics. Did you actually remove the whole body from the frame in one piece? If so, impressive.
So basically the front is just sitting on top of that new 2x4? I think #1 and #2 together are good solutions. Maybe add/attach the horizontal boards between the frame boards at the bottom, secure it to the new 2x4 and reinforce with metal brackets.

#2, plus double up the 1x2 studs and add some flat straps that run up the studs 6" or so and down to the bottom of the 2x4 sub framing. Looks like the wall paneling is 1/8"? Not much shear strength. Fasten the paneling to the 1x2 plate as well as you can, but also fasten it to the blocking.
Where you can't run a strap to the bottom of the 2x4, use a flat T-strap wide enough to tie the 1x2 sill plate and blocking together.

Many times it comes up about trailers built with the walls resting on top of the floor, and this clearly shows why it's not a great idea.
By the 1970's, production cost cutting was at full speed on most all manufactured products due to increased labor, fuel, and material costs.

Hmmm... feeling like I want to peel back the lower skin and find out how mine are attached... curiosity and the cat!

Thanks all!
I don't think this is going to be a perfect trailer, but it will be sturdy when I get done. I'll try to add to this thread as I go, showing the braces, brackets and anything else I can think of...
Oddly enough, my 52 Hanson has walls on the floor, but it is securely bolted thru two by + wood framing. A little different than stapling to a one by...
