Read Handy Bobs Solar article before going to bed last night. While it was most interesting and way over my head, I learned a few things. I wouldn't read it again before going to sleep because that is what all my thoughts while sleeping were about. Didn't get the sound nights sleep I was hoping for, but good info in the article.

Yes we charged all of our life support and fire equipment at 15.5 volts minimum up to 17 volts at 150 amps because they had to be ready to go all the time. If you are using battery power, excellent maintenance is mandatory if you want optimum performance. This includes all connections, electrolyte levels, and the equipment you are powering. That is the reason I like to camp where there is a place to plug in the cord. I'm old, fat, and lazy.

I saw on TV a few months ago the government passed a law that makes it illegal to be completely off the grid.
I have 9 solar panels I would like to use camping but the national parks we go to has almost all shade. It is hard to find a place that gets full sun for more than a few minutes every day. I do not like camping in the desert.

I was going to ask that question. I'm restoring a 1950 22 foot canned ham. (Coastbilt. I know, you never heard of them.) I'm getting ready to buy a solar system and run a small 110V refrigerator off an inverter, but that's my one concern. What is other campers' experiences? How often in the national park campground is it impossible to get a space where I can have solar panels unshaded for at least say four to six hours? That might be a show stopper.

Long cables and frequent re-positioning, I guess...
