Hello Everyone! I am new to this forum, and a proud new owner a Shasta Starflyte trailer. I need help identifying the model year. Please help! Thank you. IMG_1587 by trmiller81, on Flickr It looks like it says: "S453" IMG_1588 by trmiller81, on Flickr IMG_1590 by trmiller81, on Flickr

!968 or 1969. The Starflyte was not built with the "gold stripe" style before then, and the later models (late-69 thru '72) I believe used the awning (2-panel) windows rather than the jalousies. If I had to guess, I would think you are missing a couple digits from the VIN...but the "S" is correct, for the South Carolina manufacturing plant. BTW, welcome aboard!

I thought I might be missing some digits too. I think I will try to get a better pic and see if I can't identify some more numbers. It looks like there might be more to the left. Thanks! :-)

The "S" should be the first character... i.e. "S4XXXX" I cannot say for certain it should be anything different... Try a little wire-brushing and see if you can take away the paint over the stamped numbers. Again, there MAY not be any more...

Newby, look on the inside of the tongue. There is a tiny metal tag welded in there. It is hard to see, wire brush like hell.

Thanks for the suggestion colagirl! I brushed it like hell and came up with "S4539". Any ideas on the year now?

Newby, if you pull up pictures of a 65 and a 69 they look identical, so do what I did, pick a year and camp till you drop.

Ross will pick up this thread and tell you the year in all probability.

Great looking Starflyte!
Looking at the vin# on the tongue, it appears to be 8453. Looks like there is a slight halo of the S, as well.
Your Starflyte was born in 1971, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Our Starflyte was born in South Carolina, as well.
Thanks you for the vin#.

So I got down and brushed the plate on the inside ot the tongue. Here's what I found. Ross, do you still think it is a 71 model? IMG_1600 by trmiller81, on Flickr

IMG_1600 by trmiller81, on Flickr Can you clean the area, on the tongue, just past the 8453 and see if there is a 9? Also, can you get a direct picture of the other vin plate? It is hard to read anything in front of the 4539. Where was the welded plate found, in relation to the stamped vin# on the tongue? What is weird, is that the stamped numbers don't match in style.

I got down and scrubbed as much off as I could. Here's what I found: IMG_1607 by trmiller81, on Flickr This is the outside VIN #. To me it looks like S4539 IMG_1609 by trmiller81, on Flickr This is the VIN # inside the tongue. It looks like S4539 to me as well. IMG_1610 by trmiller81, on Flickr Another inside shot. IMG_1611 by trmiller81, on Flickr And there is where it is located. If you are standing in front of the trailer, facing it, the inside VIN # is on the inside right. The outside VIN # is on the outside left. I cannot see any signs of any other numbers. Here's some other pics of the trailer. I don't know if this would help date it or not: IMG_1613 by trmiller81, on Flickr IMG_1614 by trmiller81, on Flickr Back window IMG_1615 by trmiller81, on Flickr I'm trying to get this baby dated so that I can send in for a title.

Sweet!
Now we have the exact year and it is 1967, probably towards the latter part of the year.
Thank you for taking the time to do a little more scrubbing in search of the vin#.
