I've finally uncovered the VIN on my trailer and am wondering are VIN' s a standardized system just as automobiles are? As in say, the first number means one thing or the last group might be the year. Are these the same on all trailer? My VIN is 15TT1138 What's the significance of each number?

VIN#'s were not standardized on auto's/trucks/motorcycles/ATV's until sometime in the 1960's. The modern VIN# system we used today has 17 digits, and contains coded very detailed information. The information today is mainly needed because of safety recalls which have become so common on many products.
The ID# on my 1948 Spartan is 24-(four numbers), and it's not on the frame, they riveted a small tag to the door jamb. The 24 is the length of the trailer.
I'd guess that 15 is your trailer size, it's a TT (Travel Trailer), and the four digits are a sequential production number.

John, that's sorta what I figured as to the first number and the TT and the 1138, who knows other than the 8 which is the model number. Thanks John.
