make SURE you get Trailer tires, (ST) not passenger car (P) or truck tires (LT). Trailer tires have much thicker sidewalls and will help prevent swaying when towing,

Thanks. I have already settled on ST's, but still need to narrow it way down.

We put Carlisle tires on our 19' Deluxe to tow it home from Minnesota to Louisiana and it pulled without any problems. We are however, going to put wide sidewalls on it when it is finished with renovation and is wearing new paint.

MADE IN AMERICA!
Chinese tires have caused many of my friends problems. (separations, weak sidewalls, wearing funny to name a few...)

Ditto, Vikx. Yours is the best reason to do USA-made tires, but one of our reasons was because back when these little guys and gals were made, all the parts were made in the states. We tried, as much as we could, to do US made parts. It was impossible in some cases, but the tires, at least, were pretty easy.

What brands are currently being made in the USA? I heard almost all of the major brand trailer tire were now imports.

I didn't realize there was such a quality issue, so thank you for that information! The americanmadetires.com link wasn't working for me, things change fast on the Internet! I did find this article which explains Goodyear and Cooper are American-owned, but that the best way to find an American made tire (other brands make them too) is to look for a code that begins with DOT. www.tundraheadquarters.com/blog/which-tires-made-in-usa/

Are these safe or crap? I have the 6 lug wheel on my 62 oasis. Thanks for any opinions.

We have our 61 Astrodome and need to get new tires. It has Invader Sport 205/60R15's on now. This is what I just got to replace the Carlisles that the previous owner supplied… Link: Trailer Tire Load/Inflation Chart | Maxxis Tires USA. These are widely regarded in all areas of towing as very reliable and with lower rate of incident. One thing I never forget to do before hitting the road is to inspect and properly inflate my trailer and tow vehicle's tires. Don't skimp on purchasing quality tires or neglect them; they're the only part of your trailer that actually touches the road. They're very important.

I have Carlisles on mine. It's traveled thousands of miles with no problems.
Yokohamas are US made in VA near me. But this is funny... my Jeep came with Firestone but the Australia version of my vehicle comes with Yokohamas.

I have a '63 Astrodome and it came with 205-70r-15 car tires on it.. I swapped them for a couple of tires off my flatbed trailer that were sp205-70-15 just to get it home. The 205 is the largest width I can get into the wheel well of the astrodome. Even with those tires it did rock a little. I am looking for some 205-70r-15 that are either 8 or 10 ply tires. That way they will be able to carry the load at a higher pressure. I also noticed the original car tires and wheels were offset more to the inside of the wheel well which could cause a narrower track and thus more rocking. I am opting for wheels that are 15x6 with 0 offset (3" backspace) that will give the widest track possible without rubbing.

If the trailer originally bias ply tires are would consider putting a new set on it. Gives it the original look and proper clearance etc.
The Coker classics I bought are made in the USA but I don't know if other coker tires are.
