You'll never gain 1 3/8"... I'd say an inch at most.
If you are determined:
1. Remove door and frame. 2. Loosen the skins at the side of the opening. 3. Using a Multimaster, carefully trim just enough to squeeze the fridge in. Be sure the slots are cut where there is a free space behind. (in other words, watch for cabinet knobs, heaters, etc. The slots could be cut high or low, either or... You may have to bend the skin edges a bit. 4. you can probably use the trimmed pieces to fill in. I'm thinking if the fit is good, they could be tacked in place rather than glued. Fridges do need to come back out at times. (Normally, I would Gorilla Glue the pieces.) Also, if the trimmed area will not interfere with the door mount, you may not have to fill in at all.
I think it will work!
