Unlike the ones on Hamlet that were still so solid that it took a Sawz-all (and a trip to the ED to replace a fingertip) to get the dang things out! They don't come out easy with a sawzall because they spin with the reciprocating blade. Not much sawing action going on. If you get someone to hold the nut with a long wrench it's easier to cut through in no time at all. I got lucky, Andy's carriage bolts were surface rusted, but the wood around them was rotted. I just took a pair of bolt cutters and snapped off the nut end, then punched out the bolt. results may vary. Rod

This is the kind of danger that lurks within the rotten wood of a vintage trailer. People who just paint over and cover up this stuff have no idea what kind of danger they are putting their customers into.

Which is why we need to continue calling these scammers out and beating the drum to repair these old trailers correctly. We are potentially saving lives!!

"Make a buck and run", is their motto.
So sad, for an otherwise fun hobby.

And we need to remember that in our world, this IS a "hobby"... All hobbies have their retail end with money being spent on things that allow us to do our hobby. Nothing different here, and when we part with one of our babies, we would like to at least get our financial investment back along with a little blood money for labor. But we aren't in this for the quick buck. That is one of the things that attracted me to this forum and why you don't see me on any of the others.

I'm a little "thin skinned" right now because I'm working on a victim trailer of a recent FLIPPER. Broken frame, lots of Wood Framing Rot, and a clearly unsafe to travel the highway's. This trailer was sold by a flipper, as a "Fully Restored Trailer" to an unsuspecting buyer for $8K.

I hope you have taken pictures, John. We would like to see what this "flopper" didn't do... John has said he doesn't do pix. Maybe he can change his mind. I wish I was closer, I would run down there and take the pix to post as a learning tool, but time is precious these days. Maybe someone closer to Santa Ana can help out. The other idea is for john to take pix with any camera(a loaner camera?) and then send someone(me?) the SDHC card. I will pop for the SDHC card. Then pix could be posted to this thread. John, you got any buds out there who would take a some pix and upload them to the forum? Maybe one of your customers? Just throwing out ideas. Cheers, Rod

Who is that John Guy?
I think he's just another imaginary person, living on the internet, talking about vintage trailer's, and I bet has never even restored one!
Photos, or it does not count!

There are two things things other than the obvious that irk me about floppers.
1. There are the ones who truly think they are doing something good by flipping a trailer disguised with fluff. Some are truly ignorant. They take on the project with no experience and do no research to make it "right." Ignorance is not always bliss, sometimes it's a mess.
2. There are the ones who know exactly what lies beneath and have no conscience and are just bad people making a buck at someone's expense.
I would never buy a used airplane, fluff it up and sell it. I know nothing about airplanes. But I know what the consequences would be if I tried. Why are these people so stupid about flipping trailers? Or why are they so greedy and heartless? Rhetorical questions.

I was recently contacted by a woman who bought a fluffed up disaster from our local flopper. She couldn't understand why every time she hooked up the trailer to the her SUV it blew the fuse for the lights. She thought she could just put a large fuse in it(I have a feeling the Flopper told her that). When I told her how dangerous it was and how expensive it would be to fix she decided to have the Flopper fix it.
A little background on the Flopper, I called him out on the old site, as he was selling "restored" trailers with flexseal sprayed around the windows and was selling "fully fixed up trailers for $6k,($3k for the trailer and $3k for the resto). You can't properly fix a trailer for $3k.
