Does anyone have a favorite BOOK not DVD they recommend about vintage camper or RV restoration? I'm especially interested in something that talks about electrical issues (and structural), sort of a vintage camper repairs for dummies. Really laying out the basics and ins and outs of 12v and shore (maybe solar as well). Along with structural, and skin.
years ago I wired my pottery studio in a 30 x 24 structure, then insulated, etc. I had a fantastic book that really broke down electrical wiring from start to finish and had diagrams of alternatives. It was a huge help. I'm hoping to find something like that for when I work on my 1961 Shasta. Not brand specific necessarily.
ive read a lot on the different forums but the info jumps around and requires a lot of piecing together. I know there are DVDs but I prefer a book to reference and study.
any recommendations?

I can't find the link but our own Vikx wrote a book, if not the book on trailer restoration. I'm sure they'll chime in with a link.

Vintage Trailer Talk (the forum), and Larry's video's are the best information you will find, and THEY ARE FREE!
The advantage to "live information" is many different views are given to the same issue/problem, then the best solution can be used. In a printed format, you are given one direction, "right or wrong" and not necessarily "the best" direction for a given application.
I believe, Vikx has been frustrated in publishing a book with all the collected trailer information.
Compared to the housing, and automotive industries, Vintage Trailer Restoration is in it's infancy.
I hesitate to give much electrical advice, because the user needs to have a basic understanding of electrical systems, and on the internet we have no control over basic knowledge. Many things get confused in an explanation.

And there's one out there that you do NOT want to buy. A couple of people have invested in it and hopefully they will chime in.

I do have a book. PM me for details. The first book (Vintage Trailer Repair) describes how to rebuild a vintage trailer from Rot to Finish..
The book is in PDF form, similar to an eBook. Not online anywhere, it is available as a download from me. Nomad was kind enough to help with the formatting and it can be printed out. Everyone who has bought it has been very pleased with the content.
The 2nd book (Vintage Trailer Systems) is not in book form yet, but I do have some info available.

I can give a testimonial that Vik's book is fantastic. It's written in simple language that even me, a total novice, could understand and the photos are invaluable. I give it 5 stars.

I really don't like to be the negative one but I did some research and there are a couple that you do not want to buy. Some reviews from others: "The other book online is written by Todd "Velcro Strip". It is mainly about covering up mold and rot, plus lousy electrical work. Has been sold at eBay for several years. Ugh." "'Vintage Travel Trailer Restoration Manual' I wasted 5 bucks on it, down to $3.95 now." Here's a link to vendor reviews on the old board: vintageshasta.proboards.com/thread/1684/vintage-trailer-manual

I hesitate to give much electrical advice, because the user needs to have a basic understanding of electrical systems, and on the internet we have no control over basic knowledge. Many things get confused in an explanation. I respect that completely, John and understand not wanting to give advice to an unknown entity! That said, I am not a complete novice in the electrical department. I have converted a 180 amp pottery kiln from 3 phase to single phase. I have completely re wired a 50 amp kiln both of which I have safely used for 5 plus years. I also put in wiring and plumbing for my pottery studio (with help). I know my limitations, always get multiple sources of information, have my work checked by a pro before it goes hot and, most importantly, if I have any doubt about the correctness of what I am doing I DONT DO IT. Regarding 12 volt and RV hookups and vintage trailers in general I AM a novice. That is why I first want to read a book or two, watch a DVD and ask questions until I feel confident with my knowledge. I find this forum to be extremely helpful and thank all of you who take so much of your time to moderate and contribute to it. It is a wonderful resource.
