I want to vote 3 times. Every couple of years we do a long road trip. Otherwise the long weekend 3-5 days predominates but there is usually a 1-2 week trip once a year.
We tent camp if it's just going to be a night or two.

Up until recently- we were just tent campers.. which meant for me a maximum of two nights camping.. lol. I am eager to try out a roadtrip for two or more places to stop for sleep-overs, tho. Sadly, I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen this summer. We'll see!!

So far our longest is 5 days, 4 nights. We did that with a less than year old baby, and he loved it. Tearing my husband away from his commission sales job for longer is tough, but I'm convinced I can find enough places where he can work remotely to get him to commit to longer.

Our longes time on the road was about three weeks. It was great. We've done multiple trips since then for up to 2 weeks, and some as short as overnight. The only thing we pack is food and clothes. We have kept it simple, simple, simple.
That being szid, for the next 5-12 months, I am spending Monday - Thursday nights in Hamlet at an RV park not too far from where I work. It's working out really well, especially since with the porta-john and shower, I don't need to use the facilities (albeit really NICE) at the park. We will still take Hamlet out for short trips, but no more longer ones this year.

I have spent up to 5 weeks in my 54 15 ft Westerner and just got finished spending 5 weeks in a tent. A small tent at that. I had the big one with me but never really needed it. Normal vacations for me are from 7 to 14 days because I can't see using the gas and time to get somewhere and then just turning around and coming back a couple days later. The higher the price of gas goes, the longer I stay on my fun trips. I won't be doing any more trailer repairs on the road. That just took way too much out of me and as a result, the camping part was more of a chore than a fun thing. Never been so sick of camping in my life as when I returned from this last trip. But I'm over it and ready to take off for two weeks of fishing soon. I REALLY feel the need to capture fish, torture them for about 30 seconds and then release them back into their habitat.... Sound fun?

Mr. HOW works on Saturdays, but once a month we plan a camping weekend. Most of the time just camp at local State Parks near Santa Barbara, CA. Sometimes we splurge and stay Thursday - Sunday. Matter of fact, I'm out the door now for a Thurdsday through Sunday stay at a SP only 8 miles from the house, we had to book the site 6 months in advance (January 2nd), but I scored the best site on the Campgrounds; right on the bluffs overlooking the ocean!

I used to hang out in a campground up near a creek and a store called Paradise... Do you know where that is? We used to hike into the back swimming holes of the creek with cold beer and very little clothing. UCSB handled trail maintenance and the crapper details. This was back in the early 70s when I was stationed at VAFB... Ah the memories. I love the central coast...

Never more than a week. More would be nice, but we spread vacation days out for other things too.

That's a very cool graph you built! We're retired and so far our trips together have been in the +/- one week neighborhood. My wife does a lot of granddaughter duty, and for some reason encourages me to go camping by myself! Go figure... Last fall I took a 3100-mile trip around the four corners area for the month of October, out Rt. 66 from California to Albuquerque. I'm starting to think about another long trip, maybe a northern route this time. I live in San Diego. Anybody have any recommendations? -Gary

Head to Santa Barbara and then just stay on the coast all the way north through the Central coast and beyond. It's a very cool and comfortable drive. Lots to see.

Yes, Paradise is very familiar; never camped there, as we mostly hug the coast, but have hung out at the Paradise Store for live music plenty of times.

You should head up to the camp grounds and hike back into the creek a ways. Really beautiful up in there.
